Dres Kaneerdan's whereabouts
Dres Kaneerdan may be absent for quite awhile. His laptop is completely dead, the hard drive does KLUNK and not much else now. With the holidays and such, (and having to pay for heat) tis unknown when I'll be able to get it replaced either. It lasted 4.5 years and got hauled all over the country, so it got it's fair share of use.
If you haven't already, go ahead and put up the tower without me.
Fly safe mates.

sucks to the max. I had big plans for the weekend too! My daughter decided to spend the weekend with MIL, so I was to have double the planned playtime, then the randomly lucky synced warp w/ Aki in Iterons, in the middle of which is when my headphones screached terribly, and the system froze more solid than ice. After which, reboots make the hard drive blink for a mere second, then freezes. I'm hoping to convince the wifey to buy one on credit, but barring that, I'll take some classes and get student loans so I can pay it off interest free while in school, (which I plan to restart after the holidays for about a year, not as hardcore as my last go though, maybe only 15 credits a semester.

Actually, I think it may be a heat issue instead of the hard drive. Last night I was able to safe boot, but it froze after about a minute. I then let it rest for an hour, then was able to get into the BIOS, after about a minute it froze again. So perhaps the little fan on the processor, (if there is one, I've not opened the case, since it is a laptop and I'm not that skilled at gutting PC's). But it does fit that after an attempt at booting, where I can get to the windows loading bar but it freezes before loading full windows, after a reboot it does nothing but sit at a dark screen. After an extended cooldown period, it will again boot slightly further before freezing again.
So perhaps it will be a small fan to replace, or maybe some thermal paste to reattach a heat spreader to the processeor, or maybe it's F'd hard, but at least the Hard drive is possibly intact for some info saving goodness.

if it is overheating badly, watch out for your HDD. I had that happen to an old VAIO I had a few years back (ok, 8 years back) and the thing started loosing sectors I assume that the overheating was causing the drive to error and leading to physical damage, either way it was unusable and not worth anyone's time (or my money) to fix it... eventually I just launched the whole thing and got a new one
