Just saw this on another forum.

Also, apparently cod4 radiant (map jobber) will accept cod1/2 maps, so it shouldn't be long until we see custom maps.

This doesn't surprise me. I'm still confident that Overgrown is the modern incarnation of an old COD map.

If you can import odl COD maps, does that mean we can import Quarantine and the one that begins with an M and polish them up a bit?

Not unless we can get the .map files, for some reason no-one has made a cod map decompiler yet, which is shit.

However, what it does mean is that anyone who wants to can start mapping to some level using the cod1/2 mod goodies, then once the cod4 goodies appear, transfer their work across.

I've just seen the mod tools, will grab it and give it a go after it's out of beta.

Mapping is one of those things I've always wanted to do, but never been any good at all when I've tried.

Will give this a shot probably.

Seeing as the other cod games (well, 1 and 2) were Quake engine based, I can't imagine the dev tools and methods for CoD 4 should be tooo different if they'll run the maps from the first to games.

It's been a while tho, last maps I made were for CS 1.3/1.4 (yes, when it was still WoN networks pre steam).

I've had a little play with radiant now, it's not too awful, but it's also not as easy as hammer.

I thought I'd found one and mentioned it in some ancient thread, either that or found the MAP file for the one with the AIDS cannon.

I don't recall having very much sucess with it, though.

Well, if you can find it again, I'm sure we can get something sorted for cod4 :)

Once we have a map editor and someone knows what they're doing with it, can we have a whole map of bath tubs? Or at least an excessive quantity of them?

Yes, but as they're fairly complex models, it may well run like shit.

Possibly, but my main concern would be the lighting etc. (shiny round things reflecting off themselves and each other)

Then, I'm not familiar with cod mapping/modelling, so can't be sure.

I remember trying to use the cod map editor for CoD2 a while ago and it being a terrible piece of shit.

With that said, there's mounted machine guns in cod4, so it might not be too hard to muck about and turn one into an AIDS cannon.

I'm definitely going to make a new single-player campaign, I might need your voices for the military staff though :D
