$50 worth it for EP1, EP2 and Portal?

Post by randomgazz »

I've pretty much already decided yes. I've not factored TEEF into it, mainly because I've never really got around to online gaming apart from wolfenstein:ET so I suspect I shall be a bit shit. Might have to join you bummers online sometime though, help you get a few more unlocks

Assuming your computer is up to it, yes, but then i'd probably have paid $50 for portal alone.

Yep, system requirements lab seems to think it is fine. Find out why I couldn't get the copy of COD4 you dropped to play properly though, my CPU can't hack it.

Probably? Whatever, we 5punkers had a collective boner for a long time after that game. I still like to play that song every now and then, it makes me weep gently with joy. I'd sell a lung to get a game so truly original and amazing any time soon, never mind monies.

Before playing portal it'd've been probably.

Now, I certainly would :)

Oh dear, Portal is far too good at removing any desire to sleep. :bored: Best £30 I've ever spent.

It's almost worth it for the song, as I've even caught my missus whistling it a few times. I may have to play it through again this weekend. Twice.

Agreed. I'd pay the $50 just for Portal after playing it. On the day I got it, I had to be up the next morning at 7:30am. I played it till 3am.

It's that good I've completed it 4 times since then. Game of the year for me.

it's all good; I played HL2 a while back and am thoroughly enjoying going through it again. Also gave me a jones to play HL1 which can be had off steam fro 12 USD. Portal is teh win. Movie buffs, if you like Portal, try the movie Cube (the first one, not the sequals). Worth it already and I haven't even got to ep1 and 2 yet!

only missing link seems to be HL2:DM, which I can't find available separately (at least not on Steam) for the co-op stuffs someone posted about elsewhere.

and my PC is 5 year old 2.4G P4 / 512MRambus / ATI 6200 and runs Portal just fine.

I'm fairly sure I can get Bubble (Mrs Bomber) to play through Portal and that would be no mean feat. The last game she showed any interest in was teh claymation one with the jazz soundtrack about 6-7 years ago .. can't remember the name now. Basically because it was 100% puzzle based and humorous with it.

Yeah, it reminded me of Cube in theme at least. The sequels weren't too bad, they just weren't as groundbreaking as the original.

I must admit that I've only seen teh first of the sequals, there's 2, right? Cube 2 and Cube Zero or somesuch. Must get the other one out so I can deride them both from a posiition of actual knowledge instead of baseless assumption. Bubble tells me that the actors from teh original Cube are mostly Canadian pornsoap stars

/edit - I am making a habit of looking up bad reviews of good movies. Fave from Cube on IMDB;

Part of what makes them so bad is the corny acting. The lead character seems to be the likeable leader. Next thing you know, he's trying to kill everybody. Worse yet, the most annoying character of the film, the retard, is the sole survivor. ...snip...

That's The Neverhood I believe. I tried playing it a year or so back but it's the gameplay is bit dated, ie. the puzzles are too tough to keep my attention these days.

Cube Zero is okay if you enjoyed the first and could bear to watch the second. It's quite low budget but the story is passable, if I remember correctly, also it has a comedy villain.

ah, yes, Neverhood. I imagine the gameplay is very dated, especially as it was all filmed in stop motion claymation. I recall the puzzles being quite engaging actually, each to their own though. Bubble still asks me when they're gonna make another one.

May give cube zero a swing. Comedy villans for the win

I think the closet modern equivalent are the new Sam & Max games.

Both The Neverhood and Sam & Max are awesome stuff, although I found The Neverhood quite.. dead. It was empty. 'bout Sam & Max - I ordered the whole second series, it's worth every penny.
