Does anybody know what has become of xbox.com? I seem to have been unable to access it for about a week, I have just been getting server unavailable

It does some funky redirection through live.com and signs me in, but works for me.

I server doesn't need to respond to ping to be a fully working website, in fact it's not a bad idea to reject ICMP traffic.
Xbox.com works fine for me.
