CoD4 Issues & Tweaks

Post by Dr. kitteny berk »

Right, there's a few oddities with CoD4 atm, but most are fixable.

Can't change resolution(game crashes)
This, somehow, is an xfire issue, just close xfire while you change resolution.

Can't connect to 5punk server.(times out after 10 tries)
This seems to possibly be an issue with the steam version, requires me to restart the server a couple of times (needs you available to play for 5 mins) only seen it for one person, but it's worth noting.

Server not showing up in faves list
Odd one this, try adding a few other servers until the 5punk one show up. Once you can see the server, don't press the server browser refresh button, that's what seems to break it.

Punkbuster
PB does need to be installed an up to date for CoD4, use This to do so.

Backing up stats:
Copy the profiles folder from
C:\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\players to somewhere safe (make sure you copy your CD key too, the stats will only work with the same key)

Changing CD key
Backup your /profiles folder
Open cod4
go to the options menu > multiplayer options
take screenshot of old CD key (just in case it fucks up, use scrolllock + S in xfire)
insert your new cd key.
play an MP game (I'd finish a round, just to be safe)
be happy.

(just changing the key and not playing will make it unable to read your stats until you put your old cdkey back in.)

Mine went all sound loop and black screen but eventually recovered when I did change my resolution. It would seem they have had a very cursory poke at fixing this particular issue, and not done too well.

So much easier if they just got the damn thing to detect native res and go from there.
