Creating Spray Tags

Post by Dog Pants »

Can someone fill this bit in for me? I know there's a thread from long, long ago about it but I don't remember it being entirely comprehensive. Every time I try to do it I end up spending ages trawling through shitty CSS forums. Problems include:

Getting the mask right for the TGA
Saving them in the right place
Forgetting the size
Looking for inspiration

Also, post your amusing tags here. I know there's some good ones about.

you really only need to worry if you want one with transparency or animation. those can be a bit tricky.

Pants, be warned, asking them to post the tags is almost baiting them to post the Maddy ones from a few months ago which were HORRIBLE and SICKENING.

Am I right in thinking Teef doesn't support TGA? I've tried to import one I created a while ago (has transparencies) and it said it wasn't supported.

I believe the is a bug that can't open them.

However, you can copy imported sprays from your CSS folder to the TF2 folder and they work:

copy everything (or just the ones you want) from

C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\email@address\counter-strike source\cstrike\materials\VGUI\logos\

to

C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\email@address\team fortress 2\tf\materials\VGUI\logos\

including the ones in the \UI\ folder.

A fwe days ago I copied all my tags from CSS like Stoat described, which worked fine. I tried importing a TGA though and it didn't work. I tried copying the TGA into the folder and it didn't work. I tried importing the TGA into CSS and copying from there to TEEF, it didn't work.

I see you all have shiny new tags, so what's the secret?

Clicky here. And then click for the popup.

- Make a multiple of 128x128px canvas (128, 256, 512).
- Drag image with transparent background on.
- Use fill colour R128 G128 B128 as a background on a separate layer.
- CTRL Click on the layer with your image in to select it.
- Go to Channels, make a new channel.
- Fill with white
- Save as TGA somewhere.

Put it anywhere in your TEEF folder. You can point the game to it.
I haven't had any problems with using TGA files.

Yays! It works now. God knows what I was doing wrong for it to not import. I forgot the alpha channel though, that's why the transparency didn't work.

You can see the results tonight (although it looks a bit weird and has lost some of the clarity).

I downloaded a vtf plugin for whichever version of photoshop I have and use that to make sprays.

For me the steps are:

Draw/copy picture.
Make alpha channel if needed.
Save as vtf.
Win.

Animated sprays are more of a bitch, I downloaded some little magic program that takes tgas and does it for you.

I considered an animated tag, but I decided they didn't look right. Maybe a telly with Grimmie's avatar on would work though...
