PC not recognising anything being put into it, ooh-er.

If you touch your software enough does it become hardware?

PC not recognising anything being put into it, ooh-er.

Post by Sol »

Hello, one and all.

To my dismay my PC, running on XP SP2 has decided to stop acknowledging that anything is being put into it via the usb ports or card reader, which is a bit shit. Everything round the back is working okay, such as the mouse and keyboard and monitor.

Anyone know why this is/a fix for it?

Cheers :)

Sounds like your mobo is fucked. Or you've disabled or uninstalled the usbs/their drivers.

All the drivers are enabled, and everything that shoud be there is, and everything is working fine.

The usb ports work, but when i connect my camera (i normally just connect the CF card), it does this:

And clicking on that gives this:

I've tried reconnecting it, but it's still cunted in the fuck.

I could try re-installing the os if worse comes to worse.

try a linux live cd.

if the USB works in that, it's your windows that's shafted, if it doesn't, it's your mobo.

Indeed there is mong! I just put up the first solution, so soloman wouldn't cut on himself some more!

*snip*Finally, I restored the usb related inf files from the XP disk. usb.inf was the missing piece of the puzzle that fixed my problem. It has all the entries for usb hubs. Now it works. *snip*

that looks the most straighforward way, let the xp disk fix it.

Scroll down that page Pete, there's more, and proper solutions at that.

Sounds like Windows has eaten a usb file, should be restorable from the Windows disk of your choosing.

CheesyHam comes up top trumps again.

I was simply amused as I'd just written a reply to that article (which wasn't mine to start with) then came all over 5punk and saw this.
It'd be serendipity if I was sure I could spell it :P
