We'll be honest. We've got it bad. Portal, we're addicted to it. What started off as a fling with the perceived one-night floozy of the Orange Box lineup has turned into a serious long-term relationship. We find ourselves going through the other Orange Box offerings - and real life, we'll be honest - thinking, "Gee, I wish I had the Portal gun here."
Thanks to hard work and years of studying (stay in school, kids) the alchemists at Primotech have transformed blood and sweat into an incredible hack that lets you create portals all over the lovely, quasi-European walls of Half-Life 2's City 17. Some notes: you'll obviously need the PC version, you'll need to follow some dozen steps full of words like "hosing," and you'll want to keep a fresh pair of pants nearby. But before you get to all that, peep the video which is safely contained after the break.
A portal gun in HL2 is just another tool in the arsenal - they'd have to portal-proof loads of stuff or you'd just ruin the experience for yourself.
The portal gun in Portal is the arsenal - apart from your wits and imagination. Sure it'd be fun to have one in the other games, but the brilliance of Portal is surely its (apparent) simplicity.
QFT. That gun would fuck up their level design no end, imagine trying to portal proof the last level of ep2? We'd have had to wait another year!
To me portal is amazing because it makes you think, not of enemies, or even of final goals, but on the puzzle in front of you, it has an impact to the extent that no matter how frustrating it gets, you can walk away, think about it, come back, do the problem, and feel genuine pleasure at completion of the task.

HARD.
Also, why would you want portal to be like some half-arsed HL2 mod? hell, gmod has had a portal jobbie for a long time.

I'm wondering whether it may only make a brief appearance in episode 3 - a bit like the uber grav gun from HL2. That way they would only have to design one part of the game to be portal compatible.

i was thinking about this today, they could put the portal gun on a turret maybe and you have to take out combines swarming in, you know, the usual.
I've been reading theorycrafting threads about this, and I have to agree, the two storylines should eventually merge. (otherwise, why would Portal talk about Black Mesa and HL2 about Aperture Science?)
Did anyone check the site http://www.aperturescience.com?

Oh, you may also apply for a job at Aperture by typing APPLY after logging in.
I wonder if we get to use the Heimlich Counter-Maneuver.

Buzzmong has already tried to piss on this idea when it was on the disco board. Apparently Valve have categorically stated that the portal gun will not be in Episode 3 but what do Valve know about their own game? They change their minds all the time.

Yes, unfortunatly it was only a few dribbles and not enough to dent everyone's hopes.
Don't get me wrong, I'd like to see it, and I suspect we'll be seeing related tech on the boat, but....ah well, got 2 years to wait and see
