erm, they just released the GeForce 7800GTX, but that costs $600. and it is PCI_Express x16 only.
If you can afford a 6800GT that would be a good buy.

What do you need a new PSU for? What one do you have currently?

don't forget that the 7800GTX will not work in an AGP system. You will need a PCI-Express x16 slot for it.

shot2bits, I can guarantee you don't have a PCI-Express slot.

Dr. kitteny berk wrote: also remember, you need pci-e 16x for a graphics card.
which is what I circled. in the pic there are also 2 PCI-Express x1 slots inbetween the white PCI slots.
basically, you need a new mobo to run a 7800GTX.

and to run a new mobo, you need a new cpu (most likely, socket 939 is the way forward) etc. etc.

Can someone please explain the difference between the socket types? I've often wondered, but never looked to find out. Why is socket X better than socket Y?

I currently have a 250 watt psu, and was told by a couple of people that the chances of being able to use a 6800GT with that were slim to non, so I ordered a 400 watt psu to go with the graphics card. They should be here by now. *waits*

that would be good, much more suitable than posting in a games forum, and alot of people talk about this sorta stuff
