this. Most of the time, the heatsinks that come with retail CPUs already have some thermal compound on them, so you shouldn't have to worry about it.Dr. kitteny berk wrote:look at base of intel heatsink.
does it have a slice (or few stripes) of grey crap on it?
If so, that's heatsink goo and you don't need heatsink goo.
(in short: probably ignore the manual on that point)

My motherboard isn't detecting my IDE drives for some reason.
It did detect my DVD drive -once-, then nothing. Tried using different IDE and power cables, different BIOS settings, all different drives - bugger all.
Any suggestions dudes? I'm tempted to ring tech support but I thought I'd ask on here anyway.
(I ordered the Gigabyte motherboard that Stoat suggested rather then the ASUS. I imagine this is gonna byte me on the ass.)

Yeah cables are the right way. The really weird thing is that it picked up one of my disk drives a couple of times, but I tried changing the cable with the one they supplied and then it wouldn't pick it, then I tried it with the original cable which it worked with before - wouldn't register it again
Really don't want to RMA really but blargh. I'll try and catch tech support tomorrow and if nothing works, RMA it is
