MTW Kingdoms
Woo.. just picked it up earlier today... I have to install the game from fresh due to my hard-drive been full to the brim. It is still installing now as I type, its taking FOREVER. First it decided to install a patch taking it to v1.02 or summin, and now its installing another patch to take it to v1.03! it hasn't even started to install the new shiny TW goodness yet. So yeah, first impressions... it takes a very long time. So long in fact I have read the manual back to back almost twice. Some cool new things it has include.... Hotseat campaign multiplayer. where a normal campaign can be played hotseat on the same pc (why this wasnt implemented as some sort of e-mail based play too I have no idea) It has also improved the time controls so you can speed things up and down incrementally AND have added slow mo, so you can see your elephants trample the enemy down in john-woo stylee. I shall report back once this HDD eating beast has finally installed and I've messed about with it.

It's weird. I played Shogun and MTW for months. Then Rome came out and I probably played the long campaign through 3 or 4 times in total. I've had M2TW since it first came out and have yet to finish a single campaign. Something about it just never grabbed me.
Could just be that I've played the genre to death and have discovered MMO's since then I guess. I do wish the Napoleonic Total War mod team would actually finish a mod before scrapping it when the next engine comes out though.

I played MTW quite a lot when it was first out I think. However, I doubt I'd play it (or similar) again just now because I don't have the same amount of time now as I did back then, and rarely have the time for epic multiplayer games. I've also gone far more towards FPS type games now because I find they offer more instant fun when you only have an hour or two to play.

Never got anywhere near finishing a single player campaign on any RTS, ever, and certainly have no interest in humiliating myself in multiplayer. I do rather enjoy them, but lack whatever is that makes one any good at them.
XFire says RTW is my favourite, at 27 hours, unless you count Dragonshard, 39.

ok, i'm actually typing this out on my psp. its about 5am and i can't sleep! boo. the add-on is sweet! easily worth £20. for those that never completed mtw2 its perfect as each campaign is much more focused and feasable. multiplayer is cool! had a few good matches against w3rthers this evening. anyway i should attempt to salvage some sleep from what is left of the night!

Med TW I've spent fucking hours on, loved it to pieces.
MTW2 gives me rage. Battles are fine, but the fucking characters/armies walking around and taking 3 mins or so to do a round that would take 10 seconds on the first game just gives me pure rage.
Bascially: installed, played about 30/40 turns, the map screen characters gave me uber rage, uninstalled as I couldn't find a option to turn them off.

Me too, its not quite as polished and varied as Medieval II but i still seem to stick with it more.FatherJack wrote:I enjoyed Medieval II, although I actually ended up going back and playing Rome Total War some more.
As for Kingdoms the campaigns were nice but I found them a little too centralized, I prefer the free-roaming style of the grand-campaign.
