Need help testing TeamSpeak

Post by Quinntarn »

Hello Everyone.

Ok, over the next couple weeks I need some help testing a TeamSpeak server. This test will be going on for about a month, so you'll have access to the TS server for about a month.

Server with the most packets sent I'll leave it up for another month.

What do you need to do?

Well because I dont want my email address spread all over hell and gone in the internet. PM me, then I'll reply with my Work Email address.

When you send me an email I'll need the following.

TeamSpeak Server Name:
Your Email address:
How many Slots:
Username:
Password:

This will be your own TS server, that you can admin.
If you ask for 500 slots, you'll get it. Make sure you can use it!!!

Out of curiosity, why?

We have a TS server which gets up to 20 people at a time some evenings, but I'd guess people would be willing to test out your server if it's easy enough to do.

I'm assuming this is for stress-test purposes?

If so, your best bet might be to make a bigass public server (I forget the exact settings you need for it to be safe/properly usable) and spam it around some bigger/more active forums.

Stress Test is correct. More over this will be testing some items with in our network.

Why not go to bigger forums? That will be done in about a week. But, just wanted to give you guys/gals here the shot at it first.

If you've never been an admin of a TS server, and would like to see how it works.. Heres your chance. Its free, and it only is going to cost me time to setup the servers requested.

And... I knew this would come up. "Why is he giving something out for free!!!!??? There has to be some catch to it." no... no catch, just looking for some help. :)

I was assuming that Q ventured out of the Eve bumming corner to get non-Eve people involved as well.

Correct. Quin did indeed ask us dirty eve bummers to help first, and I've sadly let him down by failing utterly to produce the 150+ people I promised this weekend. (Due to Eve politics - SERIOUS FUCKING BUSINESS I'll have you know)

I'm liking this new Eve slogan you're running with. You should petition CCP to adopt it and put it on the logon screen.

Hello all...

At this time there is a server that is already setup for Eve. I'd like to setup others to stress test the server.

Now... The server...
Dual P4's 2.8 cpu's
4 gig of ram
1 scsi drive.
100 mb network card

MySQL 5
single P4 2.8 cpu
2 gig of ram
1 scsi
100 mb network card

Both servers Linux CentOS 4.5

I've run 100+ servers before on much less systems. What I am looking to do is capture the data from the network. Sooo. When I run my 40,000 slot server, with some slight (note scarcasm) modifications to the server, I will know what is needed as for networking (is that 1 gig x 4 network connection gonna be enough or should I just go with a straight fiber cable?).

Soooo... In short, I wanna set off the firewall alarms with so many UDP packets and piss off the network guys showing them that they need up grade the network firewall a bit quicker.

Please please please... Help me piss off my network guys. I dont want to lose my job (thats why I havent gone out side of 5punk), but just enough to make them grumble this weekend!!! :shakefist:

One or two machines with 100Mb network cards won't saturate a gigabit network, ever.

Also even if every single 5punker connected at once, with our range of ~0.13-20Mb connections, we'd hardly even max out the 100Mb, as TS is quite lean even over fast links.

If a volunteer 5punker is free to advertise the TS server to all and sundry, and make it public, then just maybe you'd make the network guys take note - but my guess is the limitations of the server hardware would kick in way before that.

Internal network speeds are verifiably not the bottleneck in even the enterprise email and filestore systems I run at work, nor even server capacity - it's client-side and switching issues, plus the inevitable failures, due in part to DoS attacks or the preventative measures thereof.
