didn't get my long weekend, and now I'm in sword company (haha, you fail, we're sticking you in with other rejects). Leaving my mates sucked big time, and while I know I'll get no, stick it out from anyone I mutter this too, I'm simply not enjoying any of my training. It's a wonder I've not been picked up for depression here yet, so I may hand in my notice tommorow. Can't quite decide...

You still in basic? Stick it out, i didnt get through basic first time either (and retreads make the best peoples.....*cough*). But then i had only 9wks to dea with.

Mate, that just means the instructors are doing their job well. It doesn't make your job any easier, I know, but drill instructors are there to break you down, then build you up. It's harder to be them though, tossing all compassion away so you don't see that they have feelings about how you're doing. They know that those that stick it out can be depended upon to watch out for their buddies, through thick and thin. I've been on both sides, in a manner of speaking, and what you're going through is cake compared to what they go through to put you through it.

So have some sympathy for your instructors, keep showing up!

I nearly failed my first round too, because the damn arm fell off the dummy I had to carry. Just 'let go' and do your best, let your failures fall off, because YOU DON'T NEED THEM, you need the lessons you learn FROM them to make you better/stronger/faster.

A week after the dummy incident, I was in demolitions training, watching chunks of dirt the size of VW bugs rain down BEHIND us from a cratering charge we had just set. I nearly creamed myself that explosion was so big and so close. Then A-10's came in and nailed targets in the same range, that was awesome! The good is coming, you just need to find the GOOD in yourself first.

I know there's good at the end of the road, but I'm still 11 months from it, and narf I've been thinking about doing this since week 3. Now I'm week 7, failing stuff left right and centre (can't shoot straight, can't climb ropes, bad at drill, always getting picked up on my locker layout). Tuesday I ed up bad enough to help get my entire troop jailed, then got back squaded and had to watch them suffer when I'd done the worst out of anyone.

7 weeks is a long time, and narf all I can see in my imediate future if I finish phase 1, is me getting to Bordon and failing more exams, which would then prompt me getting kicked out of the REME (you only get 1 shot at those things, fail it and your out). With that gone, and my inability to join the RAC, I'd be back on civi street anyway.

EDIT: I'm gona go find someone here to talk to and get some advice. cheers guys.

Sorry, I don't know all those acronyms, you blokes use different names and all that. And it all really doesn't fall on whether we believe you can do it, to a man I'm sure we ALL do. It only takes one person to make you fail, that person is you. If you don't think you're good enough, chances are that you're not. But if you spend every once of your energy on what is in front of you, and you give it all that there is in that Hulky mind, you'll get more than that back in pure confidence of your own capabilities. We'll all be here for you no matter what, but I speak for myself when I say I think you NEED to do this, to prove it to yourself. Either way, you'll never be the same person you were before this. If you quit though, you'll always see yourself as that. Be more than that. For you.

For dres: REME is the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, they do all the technical stuff. RAC is either the Royal Armoured Corps (Tanks and stuff, they break all the technical stuff) or the Royal Automobile Club (a breakdown/recovery service. probably not that one). I think Borden is a place where the army does all its technical training courses.

For Hehulk:

Seriously, stick with it. if you bin it off, you'll always wonder if you could have made it. if you dont bin it, and they bin you, you'll at least know, and will be able to move on. Speak to your Padre, speak to your Drill Instructors (not at first parade, thats a bad idea), speak to your 'soldiers friend' if they run such a system at your place, get your options straight in your head, find out what YOU want to do, and go for it.

Like Friz said, speak to him/me/dogpants (even chicken made it!! you seriously think chickens better than you?)

And remember: If at first you dont suceed, then Bomb Disposal is not for you......

I have no idea when you will see this but honestly mate, stick at it. The biggest fuck-up in my basic squad became one of the most respected members, come pass-out. You know why, because he took all the shit, knuckled down and KEPT TRYING! You might not be the best regular soldier but the ability to remember all the mind-boggling details in Eve suggest to me that you might well make a very good mech.

Group punishment is an utter cupcake but they do it to encourage teamwork. Don't lose heart, when you start to think "Fuck it, nothing is worth this, I hate it and want to go home" you are not helping yourself. I got kicked in the head for my crap shooting, stuff thrown out of the window for having a bad locker and drilled to hell and back because I was crap at bayonet drill.

My DAOR (Dissmissal as of rights) letter went in wednesday. I've had NCOs (Baring the troop sergeant) half trying to talk me out of going, but I've simply had enough of being messed about. To add insult to injury, I didn't get paid yesterday, and upon asking if I could go and see the pay clarks to get it sorted, my troop sergeant nobbed me off.

Least I can stand here, say I tried, and found out it wasn't for me (that, and I don't want to get UFAS'd, as that'd make getting a job damn hard). Sorry to those of you this may disapoint, especially Friz who gave me an ace pep talk just over a week ago, but the army isn't for everyone, and it seems I'm one of them it's not for. Not leaving without a plan though. I'm applying to my old college, and my mates having a word with his mate/boss who's in need of more employees.
