Anyone else spotted PnkbstrA.exe running in active processes?

Seems a new version of punkbuster is out, done a bit of googling, and discovered that this particular program will run ALL the time, and autostarts on startup.

Dunno if anyone else has got it, but it might explain random gliches ifyou've got any......

Just for information really, i dont thinks its affecting anything i play, but i didnt like that particular surprise.

Yup, It's kinda annoying, but AFAICT, totally harmless. (there should be a PnkbstrB.exe too)

Has it not been in there for a while now? Does seem a bit unneccesary though, Its not like you can cheat at solitaire or hearts. Or can you?

Yeah, as should be rather obvious, it's part of PunkBuster, and should be left alone if you play any games that use PunkBuster.

I have pnkbstrA and pnkbstrB. It annoys me that they start up automatically and run at all times (because it's fucking retarded, I only need punkbuster running when playing a game thank you very much), but they don't do anything or take up much resources. Any attempts to get them to not start up automatically have been completely undone whenever I play a game that uses it, they start up and stick themselves back in auto start mode, so fuck it, I give up.

I'd rather not have Yet Another Start-up Process to slow my initial boot down but I guess I don't have a choice.

You could always remove them from the reg' startup lists.

Or do a bodge job and just rename the .exe files to something else :)

No thanks. I have enough problems getting punkbuster to work without breaking it intentionally.

worry more about programs with names such as smssss.exe, these are designed to look like certain system programs so that you don't see the virus threat... take that from personal experience

shouldn't you be posting comments on youtube?

anyway yes, punkbuster is being a little temperamental, is it me or does only punkbustera.exe run as a service? the other one is in my system32 but i was getting kicked for not having it even though it's not running now but i can play without getting kicked for it...if that all makes sense, which it probably doesn't

Oh and i've got smss.exe running, should i have teh fear? no, it's a standard windows service
