Tweaking COD:UO

Right then soldiers, listen up.
As COD & COD:UO are based on an old Quake engine, there are a number of things you have to manually tweak in order to get the best out of your modern day PC systems.
To tweak United Offensive you have to edit the uoconfig_mp.cfg file with notepad (this should exist in your UO folder).

seta com_hunkmegs "128"

This needs to be set to about 3/4 of your Physical Memory, but apparently no more than 1024. The multiples should only go up by 128 at a time, so if say you had 512MB of RAM, then you should set it to 384 for example.

seta com_maxfps "85"

This is the maximum FPS threshold for the game, so if you fancy it, you can leave v-sync on, and then set this to a maximum of 1000 (which in theory it will never hit). If you have problems with this, then set it to something lower like 120, but most modern day cards/monitors can cope with this okay.

seta cl_maxpackets "30"

Now this is a setting you have to play around with yourself to find the right setting for you, and there's a long article on this that can be found here
http://www.quake3bits.com/htm/articles/ ... ttings.htm
Basically it should help speed up your network connection through COD, but the basic rule of thumb is to up this setting to 60 if you are a broadband user. There are a few other network settings you can play around with at your own risk in the article above.

berk also suggests making sure you horse antialiasing and anisotropic filtering for openGL using your graphics card drivers.

eesa pretty.#

edit: i'd've thought that hunkmegs might do better at 1/2 your memory, given that XP sp2 can be a real memory leech

To be honest, it's something you have to play around with to find the best setting, so perhaps 2/3 would of been a better fraction to quote.

I've set mine to the maximum of 1024 as I have 4GB of RAM
