few Questions
1: would you buy it?
2:What do you like about it?
3:what you dont like about it?
3: do you think its worth having at this time?
4: what other phones do you think is better than iphone atm?
just seem to be a talk about it in other places and well so far alot people wouldnt. Tho i find non computer people love it because umm shiny?
So i just want your view really

3: Everything, and Itunes.
3: Nope, not for how much it costs and the limited mod-ability.
4: Personally I'd much rather have a phone for phone-use, not a phone that tries to be a computer

1. No, but if I were rather wealthier I'd certainly consider it.
2. It is very pretty... ohh, and its quite groundbreaking in the way it works; I use a macbook; so I like the apple GUI generally and trust the build quality highly.
3. Touchscreen for texting, despite what people say, I'm not ready for it.
Despite a bigger battery than my current phone (Nokia 6300) it would never last what this thing does; I've heard a day is the average.. I can get most of a week out of mine if I have to.
3 (again?). Wait for a second one, it is very likely a Generation 2 iPhone would be much nicer to use, as any issues will have been smoothed over.
4. I can't say whether they're better; because phones are very dependent on how you use them, ie, are you just making calls/texts? Do you want to use the internet on your phone? Listen to music on your phone? Just calls/texts can't go wrong with a basic candybar (I can't do anything but recommend my current one, the Nokia is very slim and sensible).
However I am watching the Openmoko linux phone with some interest, if it gains popularity it could be very interesting

2. It's kinda pretty. Battery life and call quality are meant to be reasonable.
3. Where to begin... the price; the contract lock-in; the way you can't swap the SIM card out (a very big deal if you travel a lot); no 3G (inexcusable given the price IMO); no tactile feedback (dialling without looking? I think not - also, typing on virtual keyboards is basically horrid); can't replace the battery (no high-capacity battery or spare batteries for you); no instant messaging (after all, who would want something like that on a communications device?); serious restrictions on third-party applications (AJAX only, as I seem to recall); only syncs through iTunes... I could go on.
3 4. Personally, no.
4 5. I'm a big fan of Blackberries, personally. If I had the money and I had to buy a new phone tomorrow (which wouldn't be a bad thing, as my current phone frequently gives me the rage for so many reasons), it would probably be a
Blackberry 8707. Other contenders would be the Blackberry 8300 and 8800, the Nokia E61, and the Treo 750.

ISTR you *can* switch the sim, However the IIRC iphone needs special hardware at the network operators end, so you can't just pick and choose, you're tied in to apple's chosen network, assuming whatever country you're in has one.

I'm not sure about that. Apparently if you do switch the SIM - even for another AT&T 3G SIM card exactly like the one originally included with the iPhone - you need to plug the iPhone into your computer and reactivate it using iTunes, then wait about 15 minutes before making or receiving any calls. Marvellous.

But you can switch it, physically at least (there were lots of rumours floating about that you couldn't actually remove the sim without killing the phone.

Yup, putting in a working, but non Apple accepted SIM leaves you with a very shiny iPod.

Ahh, you misunderstood my original comment then. What I meant was that you couldn't, for instance, put a pay-as-you-go SIM card from another carrier in
and then use the phone to make and receive calls (which would be the whole point of the exercise).

I've only just bought a phone with a very basic camera on it - to me that's new fangled.
All I know about the iPhone is that it's a phone and it does "stuff". Beyond that I couldn't care less.

too be honest 2 mega camera not really an issue! there a phone which i cant remember which but it has 1.6Mega camera and better than some 4mega camera phones.
It deopends I had a 4mega camera but 1 mega still came out with awesome pics.

Except for a select few more specialised cameraphones, they all suck at taking pictures. Personally I'd almost always rather have a phone without a camera (because there are some places where cameras are forbidden), and just carry my proper digital camera when I want to take photos.
