ImageEurope's PEGI (Pan-European Game Information) ratings system, which for four years has been warning young kids off things like medicine, sex, punching electricity, spiders and small black children, just received an upgrade. It will now be covering online and mobile games as well, much to the delight of EU Commissioners like Viviane Reding, who says the extra safety it affords European kids is of "great importance". Or, it would be if anyone could ever actually understand the things.

Apparently they mean:

Age, Fisting, Fucking swearing, Scary for kids
Sexors, Bad AIDS Drugs, Discriminationalism and Gamboling.

Hitler Fucking Crack Poker would have warranted most of these.

this is all very well, but it will have no effect cos NO FUCKER EVER READS IT!!

games need proper BBFC age ratings and retailers should be forced to adhere to them.

Also, parents need to be educated in regards to paying attention to the kind of games their kids play or want to play. Parents shouldn't be going out buying their 10 year olds GTA without questioning why the kid can't go buy it himself.

More to the fucking point.

WHY THE FUCK USE THESE LOGOS THAT MAKE NO SENSE?

Apparently BF2 is 16+ LightningFist*, S.T.A.L.K.E.R is 16+ Hyposyringe** LightningFist.

If they put info on games like they do dvds (language, sex, violence etc.) we wouldn't have the problem of no-one having a clue.

For example, manhunt would have "Violence: Running around committing senseless murders" on the back, and then parents might think twice about buying it.

Proper (as The Incredible... says) BBFC style ratings wouldn't go amiss either.

Personally, I don't give a fuck who buys what games for who. What I care about is games getting the blame for mental children and bad parents, We should put the ball back in their court by labelling games properly and clearly.

*Well, clearly this is a game that features punching people, maybe a chuck norris themed game?
**Maybe a game about medicine? hospital sim maybe?

hmm, I just dug Q4 out, which does have a BBFC rating (of 18 ) with the warning "Contains strong bloody violence"

So we need them to actually make their fucking minds up what system of rating etc they're going to use
