It wasn't a car, but Suzuki Van Van was another rather stupid one. It was a motorcycle.

pfft
why dont all the japanese car firms just hire an actual translator instead of just trying to guess?!
also: the toyota MR2 had to be changed from MR2 to just MR Coupe after their really bad launch in france when they realised that it sounded like and practically spelled out "merdeux"

Apparently 'Pajero' means something like 'wanker' in Spanish. Good name for a 4x4.

It does (also "plumber"). They call it the "Montero" in the US and Spain for some reason.
Then there's the old classic - the Vauxhall (Opel?) Nova. Didn't sell too well in Spain apparently.

Thought it was the Chevy Nova, meaning no-go or something? But yeah they called the GM one Corsa, which we've now adopted.

Chevy = Vauxhall = GM basically.

Yeah, 'va' is the third person variation of the verb 'ir', which means 'to go'. So 'no va' means he/she doesn't go.

I googled this because I love how super rich companies can fuck up something so simple as bothering to check what their new products name actually means in various languages.
Megacorp fuckups.

I often wonder whether it's actually an underpaid labourer coming up with the name and vaguely hoping they might be able to swing it past the QT guys. Sorta like the goatse alternative Olympics logo making it onto the news.

Its probably just some underpaid labourer in the pub having a laugh with his mates!
