Ah fuck, so what? Every other serious form of entertainment does, so why not have it in games? As long as it isn't so invasive that it spoils the experience I couldn't care less. Remember all the uproar over FutureBEEF's advertising? It was months before I even noticed that some of the billboards had been plastered with battle-scarred Intel advertisements.

I think that new beta map for Beef, the one with lots of vehicles, also has ads.
One Great Big Meh
Personally I think it'd be good to see billboards with localised adverts for Coke on jihad maps. With the Sanskrit writing I mean.

I've got no problem with in-game ads.
I do have a problem if they take details from your computer (as 2142 does/was rumored to)

Only info it takes is view time and such.
I suspect ET:QW will do the same

I've mentioned before that I don't like ads much. I don't like the way they find their way into your brain without you even realising it, and I think that's invasive.
My main problem with BF2142 ads was - bearing in mind that ads are there to make money for the manufacturer, and do fuck all for the player - they still charged full price for the game, and still charged (lots) for ranked server licenses.
Just because it doesn't impact most players - they don't particularly notice the ads when concentrating in-game, and they don't pay any extra if they just play on public servers - don't make it any less greedy.

EA are cunts.
Also, the ranked server thing is *far* worse than that. The hoops providers have to jump through to get ranked are fairly excessive.

However, they can help to pay for longer/better support for the games, which I like.
Downside is they can really fuck with the immersion, if you're say, playing a game set 135 years in the future, and looking at adverts for a slower processor than the one you're using.

This is my big hang up, although I really don't think it spoilt the immersion in 2142.

I never found myself properly immersed in 2142, It was always just a *little* too buggy/frustrating to get fully into it.

You could say the same about BEEF, but I've come to the conclusion it's horses for courses - either you like futureBEEF or you don't, often affected by how much you liked BEEF.

What I like about 2142 is that you've got more complexity than Beef and it gives you more options. For example you have a wider range of weapons and vehicles, you can attack/defend either the titan or silos. If you're getting pwned somewhere you can go to a different location and do something else.
Not that I'm putting regular Beef down, it's a more pure gameplay experience where as 2142 can be a bit messy.
