yeah, that is pretty sick. As the article states though, the game has been out for 5 years so damage very much done, really.

My guess is some clever snot game designer thought it would be funny so slipped it in. The twat.

More likely the game was made by a US-based developer who didn't know the fuss it would cause, I suspect. Either way, seems fair to pull it from sale... assuming anyone's actually still buying it.

I find that hard to accept. The image is innocuous in itself (it's just a cctv still from a shopping mall centre) and something similar could have been procured just about anywhere. Whoever put this in knew what they were doing and with what. They may have not seen the problem, but that would be caused by some sort of autism rather than nationality, I would argue.

meh, makes no difference, as you said; who would be buying a 5 year old game that noone ever heard of anyway...

According to their website they're based in Hollywood, probably just googled for a CCTV image to use from the UK.


Still bad taste though, but forgivable if it was done in error.

Remember, Americans tend not to have much of a clue about anything that happens outside of America, especially old murder cases that really didn't get any press exposure outside of the UK... so I wouldn't be so quick to ascribe bad motives to whoever did this.

yeah, I accept that, it just seems too much of a cioncidence that this particular image would turn up. As I said, the image itself is innocuous enough, it's the context that is so emotive and so you'd have to know that, or be very lucky to end up with that particular image.

/struggles to look for a better word than lucky.

The image wasn't exactly prominent in the game, and while games are a form of entertainment, it's hardly fair to say the image was "used for entertainment".

I've heard that a Maddy game had been planned. They were going to call it 'Manic Minor'...

Because they almost certainly didn't know what it was... not surprising, given that it was a murder almost a decade previously, in another country. The case wasn't really reported much outside the UK as far as I know, and Americans tend to be ill-informed about what happens overseas anyway.

even in these days of the internets? surely the younger generations are better informed? also, we get most of your headlines in belgium as well, but there is only a small sea between us, offcourse. (and there aren't enough interesting things to report)

I suspect this was most likely an accidental happening.

To anyone who doesn't know the footage etc. it looks totally innocent.

Also, it's fairly high up the google image search for "shopping centre cctv" so it seems quite likely that they just found a random shot and used it.

but then, who knows?
