Build quality is great.

Benchmarks
Well, it's not exactly benchmarkable, but my adsl used to sync at 7709kbps, now it syncs at 8,996. which is a fair improvement.

Conclusion
If you have ADSL, Buy this.

The Good
Internet go fast now.
Lowers Cable clutter
Fairly cheap at £12

The Bad
Doesn't come with a basic punch-down tool (Only required if you have extensions hard wired (not into the front of the socket))

In fairness, I've never seen a faceplate come with a punchdown tool. Pretty much anyone installing them will have one already.

This, but I bet most 5punkers don't.

Also, those shitty little plastic ones only cost pennies, it'd've been nice to see one included from the consumer point of view, but it's hardly a deal-killer (as you can get away without for this anyway)

Where did you buy it, and how much was it? I'm thinking of getting one ready for my Sky Broadband

If I am going to be using the phone connection in the upstairs socket, and the master socket is downstairs, should I buy 2, and replace them both, or will just one do the job?

To be honest it's a neater solution so I'd be tempted to get 2 if this would work okay anyway.

does your upstairs socket connect a phone too?


Either way

I *think* you have a few options.

1) Leave the master socket as is, and replace the extension socket

2) Replace the both sockets with the XTE-2005, but connecting your extension to the secondary socket to the ADSL connection on the master socket (as the voice side is filtered) (may not be possible if you're using plug-in extensions, rather than cables into the back of the faceplate)

3) Replace the master socket and leave your secondary socket as is.

I think I might double check with my father in law, he was a bt engineer, allthough I don't think they had ADSL broadband back then

From what I read in that description, I gathered a lot of the bonus came from having the filtering happen upon the signal entering the house, so that it doesn't come through any of the 'old fashioned' face plates.
I think the best solution, would be to place your router near the master socket, and then either wifi it, or get a Cat5 cable up to your PC.

Good idea, that will be far better, as the Wii is downstairs in the living room next to the hallway where the master socket is, and this can only benefit the signal strength, and the PC can be wired directly.

I can then just use the free microfilter that comes with the Sky broadband in the extension port that is upstairs in another room.

If you have a downstairs phone, you'll need a microfilter/splitter for that, too.
