Well, last night I went to see Zodiac. It was a bit spur of the moment in that we turned up not sure if we'd go to the cinema or bowling, but we opted for this. It is directed by David Fincher who did Fight Club and Se7en and is based on a true story of a detective and journalist who become obsessed with solving a series of murders. It is apparently based heavily on the actual case files of it all. His past films gave me high expectations from this one.
The film starts with some relatively graphic murders and certainly promises a lot. Without wanting to give too much away, it kind of just fades out. Over three fucking hours. There are a few twists in the plot, but in the end it just pretty much stops. I wouldn't bother with it, unless you have a lot of time to kill. A fair few people left in the final hour, and they didn't miss much.
Big spoilery bit wrote:There is one scene where they have the main suspect being questioned and he is clearly guilty - "the knives in my boot covered in blood were from when I killed a chicken..." - and they don't fucking arrest him. I felt slightly like screaming at the screen. After three hours it just fades to black and there are a few screens of epilogue which basically say the main suspect died of a heart attack before ever being arrested and the case was never closed. After three hours, I want a damn finalé!
I saw this last night also. I did enjoy, but I did have to reassure myself my arse was still attached afterwards - I couldn't feel the damn thing for about 3 hours!
