Dell TFT Cheapness!

Dell have reduced the price of their TFT monitors!
These prices include VAT and delivery within a week.
20" Ultrasharp 1600x1200 = £389.28 (was £554.60)
19" Ultrasharp 1280x1024 = £249.45 (was £354.85)
17" Mainstream 1280x1024 = £158.98 (was £225.98)
I've got the 20" and it's stunning!
I'm so tempted to buy another TFT now!

do you mean refresh rate or response time?
My Dell 20" does 16ms response and 60Hz refresh (but as it's not a nasty flickering tube of doom, this makes not a lot of difference).

problem with TFTs is that they scratch easily.

hehe, true - usually in mysterious ways (especially on my cluttered desk) - I'd forgotten about that scratch until just now, it's right at the bottom of the screen and I never notice it

LCDs don't have refresh rates, and the response time is not the best meaurement. some"16ms" screens can have nasty smearing. however, dell's LCDs are pretty damn good. The one on my laptop, a 15.4", 1280x800 base end screen, looks fucking amazing compared to most LCD screens I've looked at, besides the coarse pixel density.

Apparently, they have the most accurate self-published specifications of any TFT brand out there.
And I love my 20" - it's cracking for counter-strike.

yeah, Dell is one of the best LCD brands. Samsung is good too.

Dell use Samsung panels in their TFT monitors.
There are only a handful of TFT producers; I think they're Toshiba, NEC, LG/Hitachi, Samsung and a few others from Taiwan... I think.

Ohh, thats tempting. My CRT blew up a few months ago, been using a crappy 15" one ever since. One question, do I go for the 17 or 19"? What to do...

The difference between using a 19 as opposed to a 17 is really noticable.
I'd definitely go for the 19" one, as the 20" is extremely nice, but not as nice when you look at the price jump.
All depends if you wanna use 1600x1200 really.
I used to use 1600x1200 all the time on my old 21" Monitor, but now I only ever use 1280x1024, and it doesn't make that much difference to my gaming.
Besides, most games are developed with 1280x1024 in mind anyway.
To sum up, if you want 1600x1200 get the 20", if not, then get the 19", as it's a very good price in comparison to other 19" TFT's on the market, and the difference in size over a 17" is very noticable

my tft's rather good, its just a 15 inch but its running on 75hz smoother than... a rather smooth thing... like smooth peanut butter
and i dont notice the scratches untill its switched off anyway.
only cost me £100 too and it'd be cheaper now cos i got it a few days before the big price drop of tfts

I think you can get really good deals on screens with just 1 or 2 dead pixels.
Sometimes they even turn up, and are perfect, even though you paid half price. Some sort of grading I think. Can't remember now.

i know dell were doing a deal where if you had even one dead pixel on your screen they would replace it with a shiny new tft
