blah blah, basically i need some way to easily and securely, remotely stop and start windows services. ideally either via a web interface, some random app or a commandline (avoiding the irritating goodness that is remote desktop)


any ideas?

I know it's not helpful at this stage as you've already got the windows license, but can't you use Linux? I could have helped you with that.

i could use linux, but i'm not at all confident with it, i wouldn't be able to get it running nearly as well or stable as i can a windows system (which i'm pretty out of practice with at a server level right now )

Unfortunetly I know virutally nothing about windows servers, but if you do get any need for unix/linux stuff I can probably help. I might even look into how to run a linux game server myself, what services are running on your windows one, other than CS:S?

currently the source dedicated server (only CS:S so far, might add a hl2dm one later) and UT04.

all the services were done myself, usually the servers run off batch files feeding the exe the info.


edit: asp.net does tend to be a little more powerful in ways, and stuff, though mostly, asp sucks (but try to get php to work on windows)

This should do the trick, of course unix is always the best answer but I did grow up with that operating system.

If I remember rightly, Goatpod is an ASP guru.

He's a bit busy at the mo' though with his ickle Goatpod, but it might be worth PM'ing him.

Other than that, what about .NET? Or am I talking out of my arse?

Someone Tell Mr woo that .net is an application serverises infrastructure for application development.

I have some experience with 2000 Server. You can connect to the server using the "Computer Management" tool under Administrative tools. Of course you need to be albe to authenticate to get proper access.


I am not 100% sure if this is the same for 2003/.NET Server.


there may be some 3rd party administration tools for this sort of thing, but I wouldn't know about that.
