tanman writes "A student at the Houston-area Clements High School was arrested, sent to an "Alternative Education Center" and banned from graduation after school officials found he created a video game map of his school. School district police arrested the teen and searched his home where they confiscated a hammer as a 'potential weapon'. ' "They decided he was a terroristic threat," said one source close to the district's investigation.' With an upcoming May 12 school board election, this issue has quickly become political, with school board members involved in the appeal accusing each other of pandering to the Chinese community in an attempt to gain votes."

I was thinking "ok, given the timing, that was a bit stupid of the kid. But the punishment is utterly bonkers."

Then I read that he made the map 2 months ago.

I started making an UT map of Leicester Uni a few years back, when should I expect the SWAT team?

fucking mental.

Is terroristic a word?

Anyhow, I remember a Doom map of Trinity College. I don't remember anyone ever going on a shooting spree at Cambridge.

Just more knee-jerk reactions by people who don't understand.

I made a Duke Nukem 3D map of my school once, and put the boss guy in the headmasters office!

I saw this story on Digg last night, madness!

So because the 9/11 "pilots" practised using MS Flight Simulator should all those map designers also be arrested?

It would only be fair!

That's rather bizarre, I can't think it's the only reason. Just about everyone did the exact same thing in computer classes at school, the computer club at college and I even recreated our offices with The Sims, although wisely decided not to reveal it to the world, as it hugely insulted some residents.

This is the reason why I want my own island out in the med, means I can set the rules and drop all of this politcal correctness bullshit and kneejerk reactions.

And I'll be on my own.
