Because it was <strike>rubbish</strike> an influential game for some 5punkers, being one of the first RTS games they played.

It was one of the first RTS games I enjoyed. The sides were pretty well balanced (by luck more than judgement I expect), while remaining very different to play. This probably explains its multiplayer success. It also had the Blizzard flair, which made the single player game brilliant. The cutscenes were fantastic (someone post a YouTube link to the Battle on the Amerigo please), and the game had a lot of character and humour.

After C&C and its many clones Starcraft was a renaissance.

Dunno about the first RTS game I enjoyed, because Warcraft 2 and Age of Empires pre-dated Starcraft (especially AoE, which was aces), but Starcraft was pretty fun - and apparently it's still quite widely-played in some circles, which is impressive in itself.

I usually spot them, but I was too busy wondering if the link would work at work. It doesn't, but I Love Horses does.

BlockSite - taking the fun out of that joke since 200x

The first RTS I liked from none of them, they all suck, FACT*

Oh come on Spoodie, not only is that a stunningly dull way (in the sense of no danger!) of going abut things, but you missed a prime chance to post a horsey link!

Starcraft is significant because it can make Korean teenagers kill each other in real life.
