Watch yourselves, someone just tried to rob £500 though my paypal account.

Someone got DP t'other day too, so it may (VERY UNLIKELY) possibly be something related to 5punk, very hard to know though.

Either way, I'd suggest keeping an eye on stuff and changing your paypal password.

I've had issues with paypal/ebay recently. Had my ebay account suspended due to someone supposedly getting my password have have subsequently changed my paypal p/word and disassociated it from my ebay account. Not used ebay for months and months though, and only used paypal for the first time in ages when sending money to Berk and Friz... :?

Had the same thing about a year ago.

Email comes in from PayPal confirming I'd sent a payment of X dollars for a camera on eBay. "The fuck?" I thought. I noticed a little link on the email that said 'Dispute This Transaction'.

Right you fuckers, that's getting disputed pronto. Clicked link which took me to PayPal, logged in with my username and password and was taken to a form that I needed to fill in to get my money back. It was the usual information required - name, address, credit card name, credit card number, pin number..."The fuck?" I thought once more.

It was then it dawned on me that something wasn't quite right. Checked the web address and realised that it wasn't actually PayPal. Shut it down, opened up the real PayPal and changed my password bloody sharpish. I let PayPal know about it and they swung into action by...doing absolutely bugger all. I was quite amazed they couldn't be arsed looking into it.

does this only work when you have money on your paypal-account? or can they take it straight from your bank account/creditcard?

Posted: April 20th, 2007, 22:09
by Dr. kitteny berk
they took it from my card.

I had $50 taken from my Paypal account by a company with a non-existant website. Luckily I had about that in my account already so nothing was transferred out of my bank ('cos I'm skint). Obviously I've disputed it, but it was a genuine transaction and needless to say I've changed my password (on my hotmail and bank accounts too).

Money seems to magically vanish from my Paypal account every Friday and Saturday night - usually it seems to dodgy porn sites. I cannot explain it at all.

This is worrying me a bit. I have never had a problem with ebay/paypal/online banking but if a net savvy chap like berk almost got caught out ...

Anyhoo, done all the changing of personal details and whatnot just in case.

I honestly don't think I was caught out. I suspect my cookies got stoled or something. (as my machine is clean and secure) and I only ever go to paypal through paypal, or very trusted sites (like steam or ea link)

Only possible/likely way I can think of is that something nasty was on 5punk while it was hacked.

Possibly something to steal cookies or saved passwords.

To protect yourself, all you need to do (probably) is change your password

Hmm possibly, how many 5punkers have been effected so far? 2?

by Dr. kitteny berk
3.

2 of us were pretty much refreshing 5punk every 2 minutes while the hacking was going on, dunno about prof.

So I'd put that as the most likely cause.
