HL2 CTF

I was going to suggest adding HL2:CTF to the HL2:DM sessions, to mix is up a bit, but then I had about an hours play of the latest beta. It's quite good fun but there seems to be a problem with lag on the servers and after about 10-15 minutes of play the servers freeze up entirely.

Anyone else had a go, what's your experience?

I might give this a go, as I like the idea of HL2 CTF

What other HL2 mods are worth a look at?

What, you mean other than Sven Coop? (not strictly HL2 ... yet)

I've tried a few others but most are very immature builds:
- Garrys Mod = if you like the idea of messing about with engine it's good, can't be arsed myself.
- Substance = HL2 SP remake, more weapons, NPCs, harder, sucks.
- Strider mod = drive a strider/helicopter, novelty value only.
- Tim Coop = Coop against enemies, like Sven but using the HL2 engine. On my own and with 2 spawns/lives I managed to kill about 5 headcrabs, it's fuckin hard.

a lot of the HL1 mods are coming to Source. Sven Co-op and The Opera are among the goodness.

a good one to pick up is the R8iate HDR-Bloom mod. it adds some of the most amazing light bloom (that the game is capable of, but they didn't include for some reason).

that's weird, because when I played it, there was no lag. are you guys sure that you're playing on servers that are close to you, i.e.: in the UK?

the lowest server ping available in the list was 80, and when I played it, all sorts of weird "slowdowns" would occur.

have you tried hosting your own server and trying that?

I've tried a few servers and each time I get kicked off, because of the lag, I log back in to the server and usually find myself alone because everyone else was also kicked. So I'm guessing it's not a usual lag problem, the server is spacking. But if you've got it working okay I'm gonna try again.
