Live Anywhere nowhere to be found in Enemy Territory: Quake Wars
Filed under:

Sony PlayStation 3,
Microsoft Xbox 360,
First Person Shooters

As the first game to support
Live Anywhere,
Shadowrun has erected a rickety bridge between the realms of the PC and the Xbox 360, allowing players to dash across and kill each other using their
peripherals of choice. Perhaps it is in the interest of peace then, that id Software has ruled out the possibility of
cross-platform multiplayer for their upcoming shooter,
Enemy Territory: Quake Wars.
"Console players will not play against PC players," says id co-owner and creative director, Kevin Cloud, in an interview with
GameZone. "Consoles require a certain [adaptation], and that wasn't something that we wanted to take on." While there's no immediate framework to necessitate play between the PS3 and PC just yet, Live Anywhere promises to bring more convergence between Microsoft's
Fista and 360 platforms -- but could the $50 Live entry fee for Xbox-PC multiplayer prove to be a turn-off for developers and gamers alike?

It's a shame, this was the first game I was going to buy that looked like it was going to support it.
I'm starting to think the take up on crossplayer is going to be less and less

I'm not sure I like the idea of playing against console gamers. Online gaming is already full of asshats and elitism and I can't see this making things any better.

Hopefully this means we will get the game a little earlier than expected, if we don't have to wait for a console port to be finished.

Nah, I'm sure they'll find a way of delaying it further.
Not sure what I think about the cross-platform idea though. Maybe there would be an option to play PC-only servers or something, although I imagine that would only make it even more divided. Overall, I can't say I'm bothered either way. Probably as many 13 year old n00b-pwners on PC as on consoles anyway.

From my experience they are much more vocal on console games, which is the biggest annoyance.

I always turn off in-game voice-over. I have absolutely zero desire to hear idiots squawking at me through my speakers. It's bad enough with them typing shite.

This, with bells on. I'm just glad that we can mute people on TS too, or in some cases move to another room and password it.
At least when they're typing it its not as intrusive as having it blasted in through your ears, and it always presents the opportunity for an English Language lesson too.

I leave voice on for the beefs, it's nice to hear people being tactical, the few occasions where there's anyone talking at all. Also it's limited to your squad and commander only so you could just move squad if you don't like it and it's a good indication as to whether there's an idiot in the squad.

As someone who is against Live Anywhere (with little to no reason

), I'm glad Quake Wars won't have it.

Nothing pisses me off more than when I'm playing CS:S and some asshat 10 year old just starts talking about random stupid crap.
"I'm so high now!"
"My mom's a bitch!"
"I'll fuck you and your sister"
Then they start playing music which comes over overmodulated and sounds only like noise.
I want to keep VOIP on games in case of something important actually gets said, but 90% of the time, it's just that garbage
