Tempted to buy C&C though, I take it it was pretty well received by 5punkars?

There seem to be two camps in the RTS world from what I've discussed with Grimmie - micro- and macro-managers.
C&C3 (I'm told) is more the micromanagement variety, in the Dawn of War, Age of Empires vein. The macromanagement games are perhaps more accessible to RTS noobs, examples include Empire Earth II and Supreme Commander.
I personally prefer the macro type where things carry on doing as you've told them while you examine the grander picture, whereas Grimmie has expressed to me his preference for the micro type where you have more control over exactly what your units are up to, and it is up to you to keep them efficiently busy.
I enjoy both types, however and will certainly be picking up a copy.

Thanks for that

From the games you mentioned, I sound more like micromanagement spazzer then a macro. I've enjoyed both DOW and AoEEEEEEEE but wasn't fond of SupCom at all (however, it was just the demo).
Plus, 5punkers have helped me enjoy some games I wouldn't normally like or enhance old ones I have grown bored of (See: CS:S, SC and Beefs) so I'll think I'm going to take the plunge and buy it :D

From what I gleaned from PCG (I'm never going to buy a C&C game), it's pretty fast paced stuff - lots of tank rushing. Sounds to me like the RTS equivalent of Quake 3.

This scares me!, I panic when things happen too quickly in RTS games, I guess my brain isn't wired for this sort of thing, like when me Grimmie and Buzzmong played DOW last week, Buzzmong shot about 3 of my dudes early on, then I panicked and retreated to my base to spam turrents.
Which won me the game. ahem.

All C&C games just seem about tank rushing, and I got beaten so hard and so often in MP that I've never been able to bring myself to play them since.

Whatever the game type, it's still 5punkers playing after all - the game of Soup Com I joined last week, for example:
I built a bunch of power gens and mass extractors, and not a single offensive unit - you guys protected me from any naughty bad guys who got a bit too close to me. That gave me time to build up a devastating nuclear arsenal which blasted the shit out of what remained of the enemy.

The Tiberium wars demo was like a mix of Generals and Tiberian Sun.
They dont rush as HARD as regular C&C games, more like Generals.

You will be pleased to know then that Soup Commander isn't just about tank rushing, oh no. You've got to aircraft rush
at the same time! How's that for tactical eh?
Seriously, SC is rather disappointing tactics wise. It runs a bit like this:
1) Build economy
2) Build base defence
3) Build massive army
4) ...
5) Destroy!
Also: did you know that Pippa is Greek for "blow job"?*
