Delayed once to avoid the holiday rush. Delayed a second time to add some spit and polish. Since 2003 this poor little game has been repeatedly shoved on the back burner and ignored. But now, according to publisher THQ, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl has wrapped up development is is sitting around just waiting to be shipped. This month. Seriously!

Set in an alternate-reality post-apocalyptic Chernobyl, the gritty first person shooter promises weather effects, intelligent AI, destructible objects and a robust multiplayer mode. The stuttering S.T.A.L.K.E.R. release smells a lot like the Prey delays or the now-laughable Duke Nukem Forever, but if it turns out as interesting as it sounds, maybe it can actually make a dent in the crowded FPS market.

This is F.U.C.K.I.N.G. wonderful news, I already preordered about 3 weeks ago. Also, from the comments:
thq is an awesome publisher. you always no that there games will be fun. I like th idea of the game but i seriously don't like the idea of multipalyer. it sounds to uncompetitive. i'll see after i buy
If the multiplayer isn't too competitive, I'm pretty sure it'll find a home in 5punk (pfft).

a) Multiplayer isn't very competitive. Sounds like co-op then :likesitall:

b) People like the guy who wrote that quote don't like the sound of it :likesitall:

I'd not looked at STALKER in much detail before, semi-writing it off in my usual cynical way as another 'fucked up promise' churned out as one of a million generic linear FPS's. I'm a big fan of the action adventure genre but they seem to be almost exclusively hack n' slash Zelda/Oblivion style game with NO GUNS. Fallout was brilliant of course, but I've longed for a FPS version and current previews suggest that STALKER might indeed be 'it'. Excited? Yup.

Anyone want my mutliplayer beta key?, played a few times but nothing to make me go back for more.

I think the single player will be awesome though

To be honest, I'd rather play over hamandcheese with any fellow 5punkers who have the multiplayer than with some random OMfGL33tHaX twatbags. If anyone's up for this, give me an Xprod.

i'd love to have that, but no store in belgium sells it and the delivery costs make me go limp. do you think it would be cheaper if one of you ordered it and send it through regular overseas mail*? that is, if anyone would be up for something like that.

*all on my expense offcourse

Delivery costs to send a DVD (190g) to Belgium come out at £1.69 for airmail (cheapest) and £5.19 for international signed-for (up to £32 insurance). Stalker is £24.99 from Amazon (I've pre-ordered it from there), so for me to buy a copy and send it over would cost you €39.29 airmail or €44.45 registered mail. Which I'm happy to do for you if you like.

i was looking at buying this, but got this happy message: "This item can only be delivered to a UK address." so if it's ok for you, i'd like to buy that one.
