Good news: CBS/Paramount have dropped the suit against Axanar:

For those not aware of the project, Axanar is a fan-film that raked in about $1 million via KS that's set ~20 years before the first episode of the original Star Trek series, and based on the prelude trailer they've put out, looks pretty decent.

Don't get too excited. There's seems to be a lot of drama around Axanar and I'm not convinced we'll see anything worthwhile come out of it. Unfortunately this is now effecting other fan productions and I suspect CBS/Paramount are dropping this particular suit partly to avoid bad publicity ahead of the new film. Apparently the Axanar people set-up a filming studio with the money from the Kickstarter.
