So, basically good enough to not buffer when streaming teh pr0nz then?

Go cheap and cheerful, spend the rest on hotel wifi.

Depends on price range, play-everything-new gaming laptops vary from £800 to £4000. Within that range you can have large screens, more portable/lighter devices, detachable screens for easier TV viewing, keyboards that light up like fruit machines, a choice of bland or obviously gaming-related case designs and even dynamic adaptive keys.

Not bothered about big screens or playing all games - something that I can Civ and Dota on

My take on laptops is that it's a fucker to replace anything that dies in it, so I go for big companies with established tech support. Mine is a Dell XPS (albeit an old one), which were their gaming machines of the time. I wouldn't dream of buying a desktop off them as a gamer, but my laptop is doing okay. When I bought it in about 2006 it could run Oblivion (just).
