So Mrs. J has some money spare and would like to buy a tablet with it.

Requirements:

-not too big but bigger than an ipad mini.
-nothing too expensive, not over say £300.
-It needs to serve as a movie watching device so may contain nice things.
-Preferably no ipad.

Feel free to give UK prices and stores as I'll probably end up importing it anyway. (shit's expensive over here yo)

Yup. Nexus 7 mark 2 is where it is. It's on my Grimmas list.

Shada and I both have Galaxy Note 10.1s I believe. I fucking love mine but it might be a little over your budget at ~£320. There's probably more appropriate and slightly cheaper ones out there, but I wouldn't trade mine.

I'll third the Nexus 7 Mk. II. It's cheap, it's fast, it has a very nice screen. It's the best cheap Android tablet out there.

Personally, I would rather an iPad

If thats not an option though the Nexus other people are recommended would be my second choice too.

I have a Kindle Fire HD, excellent for watching Films on (Netflix, LoveFilm, etc, also has a VLC app available for films you may have "backed up") and a damn site less expensive. On the downside you are limited to the Apps on Amazon rather than the plethora that are available on Android Google Store, but so far I have been able to get all the apps i need so no big worry.

I had a Nexus 7 for a while, to "read books", but played Candy Crush, email and surfed mostly. It was very nice. Until I left it on the roof of my car and drove away. When I saw it again it was in the middle of the road, well and truly mashed.

Although I can't say I cared too much, in the end I was just wasting time with it. I can do that on several other devices already.
