Hotly Anticipated

Post by friznit »

Another of those 'what I'm looking forward to but will inevitably be disappointed' threads. Mostly stuff that is supposed to be out this year but will probably get delayed or cancelled. My main aim is really to bring to the attention of 5punkers some of the more esoteric games out there that you may otherwise miss in the noise generated by blockbuster Steam releases (though I've included some of those too)

X3 Rebirth - rewrite of the sandbox, first person space 4X series with a slightly different spin. Been delayed 2 years already though.

Rome 2 Turtle War - more turtles, more war. Hopefully epic in scale. War elephants!

Stardrive - indie "Action 4X" with awesome ship design, now in pre-purchase beta and perilously close to a spiritual successor to MOO2 and Imperium Galactica.

Starbound - Terraria in space. Should be fun for some 5punky shenanigans I hope.

Starsector - Apparently all Indie space games must all be prefixed with "Star-" otherwise Steam bans them. This has a big following on Bay12 (Dorf Fortress lot) and has been described as M&B Warband in space. Alpha is pretty limited in scope (only one solar system) but the dev plans look very promising.

Falcon BMS 4.33 - for flight sim nuts, this will add F18, AV8B and carrier ops. Unfortunately release date is measure in Valve time.

ArmA3 - shaping up to be a big improvement on ArmA2. Lots of mods coming out already which replace the weird conceptual post-modern units with proper contemporary ones.

Grid 2 - Fun and slightly silly driving game. Race at Le Mans, crash into Berk. Otherwise street or race circuits.

Then crash into Berk

Am rather excite by this quite a lot

Any news on the career mode? Proper management between races, leagues, licences etc? DiRtT 3 was a huge disappoint in that regard, just stringed together arcade races. I want another GT 3 :(

Aside from everything I've Kickstarted, which goes without saying:

Clockwork Empires - Steampunky, Lovecraft inspired town management game with a Dwarf Fortress approach to Fun.

Endzone - Frozen Synapse meets American Football, with robots.

Among The Sleep - Horror FPS played from the perspective of a 2-year-old.

I'll probably post more as I think of them.

I wouldn't say hotly anticipated, more watched with interest, but Payday 2 is looking promising. Diverting from the Left 4 Dead gameplay, it's mora about planning the heist, taking the right equipment and team, and getting out. A semi-freeform campaign mode and career progression sound complimentary to the co-op missions as everyone becomes specialised in a particular field, such as electronics, safe-cracking, interrogation, and presumably face shooting. Which means, if done properly, you'll be picking your co-op partners based on what they can do for the missions.

Why had I not heard of this? It looks brilliant! And a 4 player coop mode could be epic.
