BF4

Post by Jimmington »

Early days I know.

http://www.battlefield.com/battlefield-4

The question is, after the experience with number 3 - will you be jumping in feet first on number 4 on a pre-order, or will you keep your Alans in your sky rocket until it hits the stores?

I will probably hang fire this time and investigate once released.

Eh, well, BF3 was great in lots of ways. Amazing engine and gunplay, I just wanted more depth. So if it builds on BF3 in the right ways then sure, but not until a couple of weeks after release at least.

Unless they take a lesson from steam and make me an offer I can't refuse.

As much as I've loved the BF series, up to and including BF3, I can't get excited about another one so soon. I can't see it being significantly improved over BF3 and I worry about the direction it could take if they simply horse change for the sake of change and to sell another BF game. Although if BF4 = BF2142 v2.0 then sign me up.

This could be a real boon for the next gen consoles though. With the power to potentially accommodate more players in maps, matching the PC, a new game with this change would be welcome for console players.

Doubtful based on the teaser trailers. Future modern maybe but not future future.

Personally I wouldn't mind another bad company first.

I'd buy another BEEF as good as BF3. That was worth the money I paid, even if it wasn't everything I'd hoped for as Thompy said. However, the seemingly relentless stream of DLC has put me right off. I know BEEF had DLC, but they were niche content. With BF3 you pretty much have to pay to keep up with the servers and other players, which seems almost like a subscription fee. Especially since none of the DLC appealed to me apart from the tanky one.

It's just hope on my part, I'm not expecting it.

Currently my assumption is that it'll be a souless money grabber. Prove me wrong EA/Dice.

Grimmie, how dare you bypass a social meta event for a game. The very foundation of our society will surely crumble.

But tanks, how bout that?

Same era as 2/3 then.

I'm on the fence, BEEF had a little, restrained DLC, that was almost entirely unused IME.

THREEF rather annoyed by going down the console model ALL THE DLC ALL THE TIME, makes me somewhat uninterested due to the (perceived) disadvantage from not having the last 17 addons.

I'm not that interested.

BF3 for me wasn't the true sequel to BF2 it was billed as, and as that did annoy me a fair bit (as I've posted many many times about previously) I'd be giving BF4 a wider berth due to that and a few of the other design decisions I thought were stupid, but the bonkers DLC which kept splitting up the community and "Premium" in general just pushed it too far down the monetisation route for me to not be extremely wary of BF4.

I've nothing against DLC really when it's cosmetic, or even released later as "catch up" type things, but when it's stuff that affects the very core of a primarily multiplayer game, it can get to fuck.

The real disadvantage of what they did with BF3 DLC is that some of the best content isn't freely available to everyone. The DLC have some great maps and some awesome stuff, and it makes me sad that not everyone gets to play it. :(
