Considering getting one of these, 50 Dolla, looks a good price to me but I'm not clued out on SSD's if I'm honest.

The cost of those things really has dropped.

It's probably not the fastest SSD by any stretch but if you want an SSD boot drive that should do alright.

I do wonder why you want one Tezz, other than just because. I think you should treat your family to a holiday but stay home alone and then you can play games with us instead!!!

I find myself wanting one, but I can't think of any actual benefit for me.

I got one for the hell of it. I could still live with the loading times of a HDD at the time, but I don't think I'd want to go back now.

All of this ^ I have no real reason, apart from just because, and hoping that it might make some games load quicker, e.g BF3...

But yes, I should parttake in GAYMS moar.

I've finally found a use for an SSD, and that's not waiting six months for my machine to boot. Which it seems to at the moment. It's possible that clearing 25GB of shite out of my appdata temp folder might have fixed that (thanks devs) but fuck it. It's about time I reinstalled Windows and had a clearup. I should probably ditch the pair of 250GB HDDs I have cluttering up my airflow too. And it gives me an excuse to clean out my case.

So I've gone for a Samsung 850 Evo (250GB). And an external DVD drive so I can install Windows :(

Laziness. Plus I occasionally want to burn/rip DVDs.

I've got the model before that Pants, 840 evo. Does make a massive difference with loading times, both games and applications!

I'm considering an SSD, because game loading times are getting increasingly ridiculous (Inquisition, I am looking at you). I very rarely actually reboot this machine though, so Windows loading time is a total non-issue. It could take half an hour for all I care. If I get one, is there any advantage to making it my windows drive other than that, or would I be better off just jamming it full of gaems?

if there’s any disk activity at all going in in-game, you are far better off with an SSD. In theory, Windows is bright enough to suppress non-game disk activity when you’re in full flight and full screen. But the reality is that even today’s sleeker Windows builds are pretty complex beasts and there is inevitably some disk traffic from time to time. If you’re running Fista, God help you in that regard.

Couldn't remember where my W7 disk was (not under my desk like I thought it was), so I'm doing this instead. The DVD drive is still useful though. It's a sign of the times that I'd rather order a DVD drive off Amazon than go rooting in boxes for a disk.

Also, if you have update issues with an otherwise perfectly functional machine, try memtest first. (ask fab) :)

Note to self: 9:15pm is not a good time to start migrating your hard drives :bored:
