Ubisoft DRM going away!

Hurrah!

Short version: Ubisoft are scrapping their always on DRM. Their games will now just need a one time activation, and there are no limits to how many activations you can have. :boogie:

One question though: If they decided officially to do this last June, why didn't they announce it last June and have a year less hate?

I was about to say common sense prevails, but I'm sure they'll follow this with something else stupid, like that they won't be making games for PC any more (because of piracy, natch). At least it's a message to others that this form of DRM doesn't work, when the biggest advocate of it stops using it.

Hmm. A good move but I can't help be cynical due to how Ubi had set up the DRM on games like ANNO2070. Yes, you could technically play it offline, but if you did you'd lose access to certain bits of the game.

Although they did make a point of saying their games would now only need a one time activation on install, which while *still* a waste of money and will do nothing to stop piracy, is much less of a pain for the paying consumer.

Is that the same ubi that have said we have a 99% piracy rate*, so we're making free to play games now?

*because obviously, such restrictive DRM convinces everyone to pirate.

I wonder which of these is true:

* their DRM completely eradicated all pirating of their games
* people hated their DRM and bought less of their games
* they trust us now
* they sold less games

Can I choose two?
