Good afternoon all,
So I no longer have a desktop and I'm confined to my £400 HP Laptop to get my PC gaming fix. Not as bad as it sounds though because I'm interested in playing a lot of older games from GOG which I think my spec can handle.
I wan't a micromanagement spacey type game. I have been looking at Sword of the Stars and it looks a bit 'war-e'. I DO want space battles but I also want a bit of colony building/management and politics etc.
The caveat is it would have to run well on my laptop, no point in it just managing to get by and having a shoddy game experience. Spec@ AMD A63410(Quad) with Radeon graphics, plus another Radeon 6490m which is uses when it needs. I got 6gb DDR2 as well so it's not toooooo bad for older games. I get a 5.8 WE score if that helps.
I remember there are a lot of space games some 4x and some more RTS but I don't want a pure RTS so I'm coming to you for suggestions.
Over and out.
Edit: I think I got Sword of the Stars mixed up with Sins of a Solar Empire.
Edit2: Gal Civ II looks like it might be a good shout.
Edit3: I asked pretty much the same question exactly a year ago and Sword of the Stars and Sins were both mentioned.

I've only played Gal Civ out of your self suggestions, but it fits your criteria. Oh, what about AI War? That involves lots of building stuff from what I've seen, despite the name. A Civ in space would be nice though.

I think AI Wars was renowned for being pretty brutal on the difficulty. I found a site who mainly review these games and a game called Distant Worlds seems to get a lot of praise. They also rated Sins of a Solar Empire Trinity highly and an iOS game called Starbase Orion which I think I'll be getting for lunchtime fixes at work.
Re: Strat Me Up
I've mentioned it in a few other threads now, but I've really enjoyed Weird Worlds: Return to Infinite Space on my iPad. It's available on PC too I believe. It's only a little game, but does involve simple but compelling exploration, combat and ship development.

Re: Strat Me Up
It sounds as though you have a particular sort of strategy game you like, but I thought I might mention a little thread I did a while ago that might appeal.

Masters of orion 1+2, an old turn based 4x, are bundled together on GoG, they had it for free as a promo a while back so i grabbed them and later Master of Magic (a fantasy themed counterpart) and they are now my faviroute 4x games, well worth a look.

Oh yes I forgot about Homeworld
I'll start with the oldies, and MOO as well from GOG.
