Gratuitous Tank Battles

I've been watching this for a while on Cliffski's (maker of Gratuitous Space Battles) blog, and he's today put a video of the dev version up. The game is an advanced tower defence thing, with the ability to also play as the attacker and design units, as well as GSB's thing of making challenges for other players. It's set in a future extension of the first world war, which is running perpetually onward. I'm very interested in it, but see for yourself.

That's pretty impressive, building on the tower defense style of game by not only allowing you to play both sides, but having both sides able to cause damage to each other. Plenty of new avenues for strategising, but one thing I didn't see was different troop speeds.

When the night map started with the searchlights I was a bit dismayed at what a bitch it would be to play...until he turned the night vision. Being able to design the units was the icing on the cake.

Oh. I made a little constructive criticism and Cliffski has been having to do tedious coding to correct it. Now I feel bad;

:( But also kudos to him for listening to the comments of three people and acting on it.

Beta has been released for pre-order customers. So basically you can buy it now. I have, I shall report back. In the meantime, have this:

Bloody christ this game is hard when attacking. It has the feel of GSB about it in that you're always adapting your strategy, and you can design your own units (both attack and defence), but obviously it's a lot more dynamic as you have control over the units placed in real time.
