Minecraft was an Alpha-stage purchase for me.

Skyrim's on pre-order from play for £27.99
Anno 2070 will be getting touched by my left-over Amazon gift voucher pounds.
Battlefield 3 will be bought some time, eventually.. Maybe.

The others aren't really my cup of tea.
I don't even like tea.

I should clarify that Skyrim and Minecraft already have my money, they could have it all if they really wanted.

I've been kicking myself over recent full price purchases when the inevitable Steam sale has come along before a year has even gone by. There's nothing there I can't wait to get on the cheap. I'll leave day one purchases to multiplayer/mmo nonsense.

Skyrim and Mindcraft already have my dosh, the only other ones on that list are Serious Sam 3, Batman and Saints Row.

The latter two I intend to pick up on budget, and Anno's apparently using some Ubi-drm bollocks, so I probably won't touch it.

I'm also on the 'already bought Minecraft and Skyrim' train, and the only other one that interests me is Batman, but not enough to buy it straight away. Remember the Christmas sale, gentlemen!

COD can fuck off after I found out Not that I was interested before mind you.

I am disappoint in the lack of la noire interest. I quite like the idea of being a gum shoe in a rain slicked 30's city and the choices you make generating twists in the plot. Plus it looks quite spiffy.

LA Noire is one that I really want to buy, moreso than Skyrim (Elder Scrolls games never really interested me). Of those listed that I haven't already bought, it's the one that I'm going to get at some point for sure. I haven't yet solely because funds are tight at the moment and I'm going to be playing not much but BF3 for the foreseeable future.

The Old Republic is one that I am definitely interested in but I'm going to wait until after release to check it out so I can avoid launch issues and get a more informed opinion about how the game really plays. I don't like MMOs as a general rule but as a sort-of sequel to KOTOR I gotta at least see what the deal is.

Modern Warfare 3 is in the same boat as Modern Warfare 2 was, I'm not considering buying it until it hits $30 (which I stuck to, in a rare circumstance). Unless it comes with free blowjobs and a new car, you can forget about it.

Two words to put many PC gamers off: Console Conversion. Admittedly so is every GTA since 3, and the glorious Mass Effect games, but even so those words make me and many other gamers want to ignore them.

Ah shit. After all the controversy and ironic Steam boycott groups I forgot that the price tag was originally what made me not want to buy MW2. Yep, MW3 can join the list of all other £40 games which can get fucked.

Huh. Almost everything on that list can, for me, be split into "already own it on the xbox", "already paid for it" and "not interested".

LA Noire I have on the xbox, and it is rather excellent, but also rather unusual. It takes a bit of getting used to not driving like a crazy, gunning down random people and having huge sections of the game play being about slowing down and thinking for a second. The fact that just the theme is so radically different to what most games are about is refreshing enough, the fact that its also been done well is a bonus. The facial animation is...odd. I like that you occasionally recognise the actors, and it makes it a lot easier to differentiate between the characters than it is in similar games. Sometimes it goes ever so slightly off though, as if they are projecting a 2d video of a face on to a mannequin, at which point it goes decidedly creepy. I also thought at first that the interview thing was shit, as the actors may as well have been holding up little "IM LYING MY ASS OFF" signs. I now think that was just the first few interviews, to ease you in, as it seems to have got a lot harder the further in I've played.

I would also recommend playing with a notebook of your own. The in game one is not great, and some of the later stories need a lot of things kept in your head at once.

In short: if I didn't already own it, I would be getting it for the PC.

As for the rest, I've preordered Batmans and Skyrim, and I paid for Minecraft loooong ago. I'm kinda interested in NfS, but its been a while since ive actually liked a game in that series, so im not holding my breath. Anno 2070 i'll be waiting till it hits budget, and like Deject, I'll be waiting till TOR has had time to settle in, probably.

I watched the Yogscast "Hannah Plays..." series of LA Noire, some 70-something videos spanning the whole game, and thought it was excellent. Obviously I'm not going to play it myself, but if you want the story with none of the hassle of control woes then it's certainly worth a watch.

I've already got LA noire on the PS3, and for days afterwards I kept thinking like a detective. Someone my brother knew threw himself off a bridge, and his mate who was with him watched him do it with no other witnesses around. So I suggested the mate was somehow involved as they were on their way to see a girl. Then I got told off before I could get my detective hat on.

MW3 is getting some good reviews. B33f is enough for me right now, but I'm sure I'll get it later.

Steam sale ahoy!

So what's up with new games on Steam? Batman is delayed until the 25th apparently, but neither of the other two games out today, Saints Row and Ned for Speed are available in the UK Steam store.

The word is that retailers like Game (remember, it was that shop-lke building you used to go to for games about 10 years ago) have thrown a hissy fit and threatened to not stock any Steam-sold or Steamworks games as they don't like the competition. This, despite the fact that game stores rarely even have a PC section and if they do it only contains WoW, The Sims and the current top 10, partly it seems because they can only sell PC games once and at a profit margin limited by their suppliers.

If true, they must have some clout though - I'd imagine a nationwide chain's worth of day one stock represents a big amount of cash, so publishers like EA and THQ appear to have acquiesced.

That could all be completely false though, as both games are available online repectively from the THQ store and Origin - they may just want people to use their own system, rather than Steam. I didn't even know THQ had a store until today.

Most console gamers I know still buy their games in the shops, which is great because I can laugh at them for paying 60 euros for a game that lasts about 7 hours.
I also did a quick check on eurosteam and Saint's Row is in there and available, but no sign of need for speed. Batman's delayed here as well so it's probably on the publisher's end.
