Powers Alpha Testing
Im almost (like, by the end of this week, maybe middle of next week) at the stage where the bare bones of my RPG system is ready to be given a poke by real people, and I need some volunteers to help poke at it.
I'm not joking when I say bare bones either. This is the most basic bits of the rules, and the most simple part of the power building system. Its not the totality of what ive done so far, but I want to make sure what im doing makes sense to other people, and that its not horribly, irreparably broken in some fundamental way.
What I want testing is the character creation rules. I'm not giving you the fancy bits yet, this is the nuts and bolts like range, damage type, duration, that sort of thing. I want people to have a look through them, see if anything obvious is missing from the basics, if anything is redundant or stupid in some way. Try breaking them and finding loopholes that let you do stupid things, that sort of stuff. Feedback on them would also be good.
The other thing that im struggling with and need some ideas on is how to cost stuff. Im using a build points system: you will get a certain number of points at character generation, and all the different power components cost different amounts of points to buy. I'm thinking that some stuff will have set points cost (this thing costs 10 points), other things will have incremental points costs (this costs 10 points per level) and others will be multiplyers (this makes the whole power cost x2), but im not sure how to work out how much things are worth compared to other things.
This first round of testing is also (and if im honest mostly) focussed on making sure you guys undestand what im talking about though, hence its cut down nature.
It doesnt matter if your are one of the regular beards, or if you have only just the slightest bearding experience, or even if you are entirely new to RPG's. In fact, the more of a range of people the better.
So, who wants to help?

Re: Powers Alpha Testing
Initially, yeah, definitely. Just to be clear: this first round of testing is very much conceptual stuff: Do these rules make sense to you, that sort of thing. Actual playing will come later.Legoshoes wrote:Count me in. Will this be a mostly forum based affair?

Re: Powers Alpha Testing
If you also need someone who has only made 1 beard character that was deliberately weird and difficult to play and doesn't understand any rules... I'll give it a go!

Re: Powers Alpha Testing
At the moment, the only thing I think you are missing from the stuff I was going to include is flight.
If you ask really nicely, I'll include that too.
Actually, you will be able to do angry yellow hair fighting man in a fairly basic form. The stuff you would need to do the hair-getting-longer, power-level-increasing stuff is more complicated, and isnt ready yet.

Flight please!
I'm most excited about making the zappy stuff and the aura stuff, so the mahoosive hair can come later. Pew pew pew.

Re: Powers Alpha Testing
Just to let you know, I've not forgotten this! Things got a bit delayed due to the addition of flight snowballing into the addition of a bunch of other stuff too. It's all good stuff, but took a fair bit of doing, and means that the schedule slipped a bit.
On the plus side, I think everything that needs to be written is. I just need to organise it a bit, as it's rather wall-o-text at the moment, and jumps around all over the place. Once I've done that (and presuming that doesn't highlight any gaps) it'll be ready for you bummers to pull to pieces.
