If I had to use zombies as a metaphore for a social issue like previous directors/writers, I'd address the chav epidemic.

Zombies have redeeming features - they don't sponge off the state, steal everything and stab you up for a bus tickets worth of pocket change.
Even gypsies hate chavs.
