Despite hating the way EA release games (cut down versions with endless expansion packs), I remember having a great deal of amusement with Sims (the first one, never played 2 & 3 as they felt too much like EA were milking a dead goat). But adding swords and RPG elements could be something new and interesting.

Are you talking about Sims:Medieval?

RPS had some interesting things to say on it, the big one is that it's quite a bit different from other Sims games.

I think there was a review in PCG too. I can't remember the details, but I don't think it got a notable score, as in not memorably high or low. So it's probably okay.
