£26.95 delivered to my door.

Bad news is I can't have it till the 25th as it's my Birthday present

Will it come with Steam, or do I have to download it seperately?

i'd've thought the game would have to come with the steam installer - remember steam basically has it's own file system and stuff running under it.

though probably not in the normal 600kb version

aaaaiigh!

woo, bout time!! :D

yes, it comes with the steam installer but you'll have to update it like a bitch! Don't expect to be playing in less than 20 minutes after install, there are so many things it has to do!

yes. I ordered over Steam, and I pre-loaded the game data to my hard drive. It took about an hour to decrypt all the files.

woo to you sir!

you'll have to dl a load of updates and wait for decryption and similar nonsense, but it will get you there eventually. Its not a bad game, but a bit lotto imo.

lotto?

Also, my steam-downloaded-HL2 unpacked in about 10 mins. I am teh win!
The speed of the unpacking seems random. Some people waited a godawful amount of time, others (like me) didnt. Anyone know why? It certainly isnt the all powerfull nature of my computer.

Could of been teh steam servers, handing out certain amounts of bandwidth to some people then struggling to give half a kb to some people... like me.. took me 50 mins on the day HL2 was released to install and authorise the files.

I bought the DVD Rom for £26.95 from http://www.mx2.co.uk

Really don't like the idea of buying something I can't feel/see.

If I create a Steam account, is it really important for me to keep the login details such as username, password, e-mail etc???

I don't wanna loose these and then find my game is rendered useless

P.S. I assume I can reinstall HL2 if I rebuild my machine, and then I have to decrypt my game again, or do I have to keep the original decrypted file?

you absolutely *have* to keep your details.

Once you've attatched the cd key to your steam account, it stays attatched for ever and you can't re-use the key.

as far as reinstalling stuff goes, in future, you can either install from the dvd or just download from steam, no limits to how much you can do either.

I don't think so, because I had pre-loaded the game files on mine, and I didn't actually pay up until about 2 weeks after release. Still took forever.

I was a release day whore too.. finally got it unlocked at 2am. That was a laugh. Anyway, Woo, don't get drawn into that HL2 deathmatch bollocks, come play CS:S like a real man!

Posted: March 4th, 2005, 9:23
by Woo Elephant Yeah
But, but, but...... I like running round shooting people constantly

So then, what are the basic differences between CS:S & HL2 Deathmatch?

In CS don't you have to buy your weapon loadout each time you start a match? What game modes are there is CS:S, and what are they all about?

HL2 has the same weapons as the single player game then, i.e. the Gravity Gun?

Sorry for all the questions, but I'm becoming an excitable child with this game

counterstrike is round based team shooty.

you buy a weapon at the start of a round (normally a 30 second buy time)
then get to keep it until you die or buy a new one (so potentially you can keep the same gun for many rounds)

get money for kills and winning rounds (either by killing all the enemies, or completing the objectives)

as far as objectives go, there's DE and CS maps;

DE = bomb maps, terrorists are meant to plant a bomb, counter terrorists are meant to stop them (or defuse the bomb)

CS = hostage rescue, counter terrorists are meant to rescue hostages, terrorists are meant to stop them.

mostly i suggest playing a bit, running around lots and pestering me and jinxx if you want any help/educations.
