I'm not sure I want to play a beta of Stalker, given how buggy it was supposed to be in the last thing I read about it. Betas of multiplayer games are fine, but a single player like this is as much about the story as the gameplay and I'd rather play it through the first time using the full, unbugged version.

If I win a key I might have to upgrade sooner than I thought!

in this case, it is a multiplayer beta, should've been clearer.

Speaking of upgrades - I've currently got a 128MB 6600GT. Would one of these cards below be worth an upgrade, or would I be needing to upgrade again soon after anyway? Its being offered for sixty notes by someone at work.

Code: Select all

Geforce 6800 GS Chipset
Manufactered by Point of View
512 MB DDR2 Memory
TV Out (Integrated HDTV encoder)
DVI
PCI - Express

Didn't even know it had a multiplayer. That could be very good if they keep the big world and RPG elements. Kind of like FPS MMONG Fallout.

Right you are. Good job really cos I can't afford it and I already made the decision to buy a PS2 instead, but this early in the month then silly ideas will persist in my mind!

IME big world FPS multiplayer games don't work.

see also: Turok 2, Farcry.

I've already played it: http://www.torrentspy.com/torrent/82347 ... Build_2215

:P

Obviously I downloaded that just to look at the graphics, etc.
I'll enter but I'm really more interested in the single player aspect.

Depends how they're done really. Deathmatch in a massive map = fail. MMONG style co-op quests might be rather good.

It would be cool to have something like the NOLF 2 co-op missions, but if there were more than 5.

Well if you decide you don't want to upgrade I know someone with a nice shiny machine that'll run it instead :)

I've played the same b3ta that Spoodie mentioned, for the same reasons (graphics, weapons, upgrades etc).

It's been interesting to say the least. You can't play with anyone I don't think, but it's nice to get a feel for how it'll be when it's all done. Also, aside from some collision/texture/sound issues and being in German/Swedish/Dutch/whatever, it felt quite nice to play. The weather was nice too. I feel S.T.A.L.K.E.R's imminent release date spurred me on to upgrade. Hope it's worth it!
