Occam's razor and the shocking state of teh ISS forums

Friz, here's what I could find out about Occam's Razor. Assuming that you want this to block forum access, I have some alarming news for you. You can view the member list on the ISS forums ... there are 2128 registered users. Given that we currently have less than 1800 members in ISS and that many members do not have forum access I would hazard that we have over 700 forum accounts registered to non-iss members. Worse, location data is very inconsistently filled in (>400 pilots with no entry at all and several who's corp name is apparantly Delhi, Mozambique, USA or Birmingham) so I'm not sure if it is possible to search for a particular corp.

I would strongly suggest kicking everyone who has not filled out the ticker/location correctly and ask everyone to reapply for forum access

If you are looking for a way to control access of the ISS secret stuff then create a group per corporation and make the CEO the "Group Moderator"

Only control access using groups, absolutely no exceptions, not even for management.

Make it the CEO's responsibility to keep up to date their corp's group. Failure to do so means lots of pain.

Then for other groups like management, capital ships, etc you need to appoint someone and ensure the CEOs also announce leavers and departures to those Group Moderators.

An example on 5punk:

Groups are controlled here: http://www.5punk.co.uk/phpbb/groupcp.php

narf I am not sure why there isn't an EVE secret stuff group with Friz as the group moderator or something in this case. As right now you don't know who can see this section, but with groups you'd have a list.

ISS forum is organised in this way, although the corp lists are moderated by one guy who the CEO's send updates to. I've just been helping him clear our the CEO's and Alpha CEO's channels which badly needed doing, so the top forums should be more secure again.

Agree with you on the groups on 5punk though - I recently wanted to do an audit of who had access to the 0.0 Forum and there was no easy way to do it...one for WEY or Stoat I guess? I don't know how to set that up.

I did ask dog pants once ages ago if he could give me a list of who had access to this forum but it would require him (or someone) digging through the 500+ registered users to see. Pratical isn't entirly the word :(

Yeah, I recently (2 weeks ago or so) gave WEY a list of people who might conceivably have access and ticked off those who should be removed. But a groups function like on the ISS board (which I believe is also phpp?) would be easier. :?

If you give me the list of people who might have access I can tell you if they have or haven't. It's a 30 second job to change or check, it's just 30 seconds multiplied by several hundred users is a bit excessive.
