Portal 2

I thought we could use a thread.

I played through the original again recently and noticed the ending had been updated, apparently about a year ago. I only noticed some robo noises and thought it could suggest Chell was an android, but apparently it was just a hint and what we now know: That the new protagonists are robos.

Here's the new ending, in case you missed it like I did:

Valve games are the only ones that warrant hype from me. I can. Not. Wait.

Looking forward to the tears from all the people who cancel their Friday night plans for a rumoured early release that never happens.

Yeah well, I'm not cancelling my plan of staying in to play games until I *know* I can play this instead. Suck it Valve!

You know, it's only for Valve games I seem to get proper excited for, sort of kid at Christmas excitement. I think it's because there's a good chance it'll be something special.

There's a comic that sort of bridges the gap between the two games

It is complete. Only to be replaced by an Arg related cryptic clue which then redirected to:

Seems as if they're logging people playing the Potato sack games. Interesting.

Looks to me like it the more people play potato sack games, the quicker the timer runs down. I may have just pulled that idea of of thin air though as I've only just woke up.

Yep, that's what it looks like to me. Played Defence Grid (with new content I didn't know about), downloading Audiosurf.

EDIT: Also Amnesia. I forgot about that. Arf.

It actually says "Help unlock Portal 2 early" now.

The rumour I heard revolved around a high school science project - the one where you get a light bulb to illuminate by using the latent electrical charge in a potato.

With enough potatoes, you might even be able to power up a crazed computer intelligence...

Curses. I'm nowhere near my steam pc :(

Still, this is a pretty good turnout.

Looks like I have a spare copy of Audiosurf, Defense Grid, Amnesia and Super Meat Boy if anyone is interested.

Edit: Super Meat Boy and amnesia are sold, but I found I have a copy of portal 1 if no one here has not have it yet.

Ooh, I'll take the Super Meat Boy if it's going.

http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/04 ... almost-up/ explains how it works:
“Remember the Potato Sack? GlaDOS is apparently drawing “power” from
computers playing games in the potato sack. For every collective 48 hours
for one particular game, that game’s “power bar” goes up by 1%. And Steam
needs to record you actually playing the game – just leaving something
idling in the background does not contribute.

The potatoes we all frantically collected can still be collected – in
fact, you are a major contributor if you even collect one potato in one
game. Potatoes multiply that game’s particular power, so if, say, you
gathered 5 potatoes in Audiosurf and one in Bit.TRIP BEAT, you’d be
multiplying EVERYONE’s efforts in Audiosurf by 6x and BIT.TRIP BEAT by 2x.

Some people seem to think that launching multiple games is a good idea.
This is in fact, not helping at all, because Steam only records keyboard
activity in games launched through Steam, not through external launching.”
There's a list of how to get the potatoes here: https://docs.google.com/document/pub?id ... =1&ndplr=1

For the first Defense Grid one, you can open two windows and basically play the computer against itself. I got two or three of the others, but found getting Silver in the CHAS level too hard.

For the first Audiosurf one, there's a 15 sec file which pretends to be the correct one here: http://www.5punk.co.uk/downloads/GAMES/ ... us%20I.mp3

The first Amnesia one is simple, though the scecond looks hard. I don't have the other games, other than Killing Floor, which probably needs a bit of cooperative money-making.

Valve are bloody geniuses. It's a shame this won't be recognised outside of the gaming community/industry.
