Well my mate's promise to lend me his Gamecube has never quite materialised yet, but I think I'm about to buy a PS2 from someone at work. Expecting to pay £80 for the console, 2 controllers, memory card, Star Wars Battlefront 2, Resident Evil 4, Destroy All Humans, Jak 3, The Lord of the Rings - The Third Age and King Kong. On top of that I want to buy GT4, Metal Gear Solid 2 or 3, SSX3, Viewtiful Joe 2 and Devil May Cry 3. Is there anything spectacular I should get? I'm thinking of FIFA '07 too, but its still a bit pricey.

IIRC you're not a fan of the turn based Japanese-style RPGs, which is a shame as there are some corkers on that platform, and what 90% of my non-lent-out collection consists of.

Kingdom Hearts II and We Love Katamari were fun titles, plus Kessen II or III if you like action-strategy - they're kind of like the battle bit in Medieval II.

That's a shame because Dragon Quest 8 is very good, easy to get into and funny. I only stopped playing because had too many PC games to play and it's massive.

Okami should be out soon at that's supposed to be excellent.

From what I played on the PS2, a wonderful game that has yet to be mentioned is Shadow of the Colossus.

No-ones mentioned guitar hero/2 either. My brother plays that more than I play that which must not be named.

That's not half bad. Also i'd recommend fight night round 3, timesplitters future perfect, lego starwars, burnout 3(or anything newer would probably be good too), mercenaries (if you like you're gta type shooty shooty's) and more than likely some other shit. I have far too many...

Absolute must haves

Ratchet & Clank
Ratchet & Clank 2
Ratchet & Clank 3
Jax & Daxter (the rest I couldn't get into)
Any of the Grand Theft Auto games
For fun with friends and family I'd strongly suggest getting the Buzz titles

Burnout 3: Takedown

This game is simply magnificent fun, I have spent hours and hours and hours playing this game and trying to get the awards. Then once I had got all of the races done that I could do (there is a series race with Indy Cars which is bastard hard) and got all the awards I could manage and caused countless millions in damage... I made a new character and started all over again

The crashes really make you wince, the collosal explosions make you laugh and the physics in it are good, but it doesn't try too hard (unlike its successor which is a waste of time)

GO! BUY! WIN! ...! PROFIT!

Not much of a console person, however I have sunk many hours into Tiger Woods at a friends house. Despite it being a golf game it can be very engaging.

Fukken this ^!!

Also, I personally would go for a cheap Pro Evolution Soccer then a new Fifa, they're that awesome. I think 6 is the latest one but 5 is the one I swept and it's win, much better then any Fifa I'd ever played.

Well cheers for all the pointers guys.

I've so far accumulated GT4, Star Wars Battlefront 2, Resident Evil 4, Destroy All Humans, Jak 3, The Lord of the Rings - The Third Age, Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3, and SSX3. I'm buying FIFA 07 and Devil May Cry 3 from someone at work today. Gone for FIFA because it was easily available and is £15 from a mate, but I'll give Pro Evo 6 a go when I can borrow from someone else I know.

Someone at work has all 4 Ratchet and Clank games for £8 each, but I've already managed to spend a fair bit more than I had originally planned, and I've got a lot of games to get on with for now.

Only other thing is something for the missus (ooh er missus). She can't deal with 3D action, so a simple side-scrolling platform game would be ideal since she used to love the original mario games. I'm thinking of getting one of the Sonic collections because they were the first games I had on my megadrive 2 (which I still have!), but has anyone else had good experiences finding PS2 games for females?

I loved the first devil may cry game, and completed it a few times. But i never got off the first level of the 3rd game  Maybe i should try again

Buy the very first Ratchet & Clank and see how the missus gets on with it, as allthough it's 3D, the camera angles are really good and don't get stuck in stupid places like other 3D games do, plus the first one is a lot slower paced and has a very gradual learning curve.

If she likes it, then she can buy you all the other ones 8)

Haha, I like it. I'll maybe give that a go then, thanks. Bless her simple mind and poor grasp of 3D environments. :)
