TCP Optimizer

After finding a bookmark on my home PC linking to TCP Optimizer, I then proceeded to download it, and give it a whirl.

I have found that recently my connection has been a bit spacky, and can be slow at times when it's supposed to be 10MB.

What have I got to lose I thought as I downloaded the program, clicked on "Optimal Settings" and backed up the current network card configuration.

"Ahhhh" I realised as I rebooted my machine and can't now connect to my broadband connection.

Not a problem, I'll just use the feature to restore all my settings from backup.

Reboot, wait for everything to work again and.... oh fuck, it won't work :x

So basically I have tried resetting the setting to windows default, my orginal backup, and I have removed it from device manager and rescanned, all with no joy, and several reboots of my broadband router.

Now it can only be 2 things, tis TCP Optimiser thing has fucked up my network settings so bad that the builtin restore option isn't working, or it just so happened that my broadband modem died at exactly the same time as making the changes

Is there any way of completely removing all network settings back to default? I use an onboard network, but I am not sure installing a network card is going to have any affect

Answers on a postcard please, or just hit the reply button

Actually after posting this, I found this page again, and I wonder if this might be worth a try

try the reset patch, and reboot a few times. if you have no luck it'd be probably be easiest to launch and nuke.

also, IME apps like that can help, but only to optimise stuff that's working, rather fix stuff that's fucked.

I had to completely rebuild my PC last night as none of those fixes worked.

All seems to be okay now though

i'd suggest buying a router, they take driver issues etc out of the way, and give you something easy to hit and reset when your connection goes to shit. (also pretty much remove the need for a firewall)

Yeah, I'm holding off buying one for now, because if I change to Sky, I get a free wireless router

:P Yeah, I'd still have it wired into the wireless router, and then just use the wireless for my PSP :boogie:

but isn't a PSP for gaming? :?
Seriously though, stay away from wireless if you need a constant, consistant data flow

Yeah, I will, I'd have the PC hardwired into the wireless router so that it's not using wireless, and then I can do fancy wireless shenanigans with my PSP such as streaming shoutcast radio stations (i.e. 5punk radio) or quickly checking up on 5punk or accessing my e-mails from the living room downstairs whilst still being able to look after Abigail :)

im afraid the radio will spack out, Wireless is that bad (and as far as im aware, its getting worse as more people are getting it and using it on the same channels as other people and imparing the signal further)

remember the few times I played COD with you guys and my connection would spack out badly at least once a minute? Welcome to the joys of wireless

It would seem that I didn't screw over my network connection at all, instead there is an issue in my area that was reported 2 days ago, so they cannot send anyone out to replace the broadband modem until the issue is fixed?

All sounds like a load of bollocks to me, but basically my blueyonder connection completely dies at random times for a period of hours, and then randomly comes back to life again. The troubles started nearly 2 weeks ago, and gradually got worse and worse, and were originally solved by a modem reboot.

Apparently I need to ring up when the connection is lost, without trying to repair the connection, and that way they can test the frequency's and try to analyse/solve the problem.

Does this all sound like bollocks to you? Personally I would sya that the modem is faulty but they say it looks fine, and it doesn't help that every time I go to ring them it's working :x

Actually, what WEY is describing is pretty much what I have: Wireless router plugged directly into my machine for gaming, but wireless for the psp. Wireless works fine for that, its just really gaming that ive had problems with, wireless wise. Well, that and sweeping things.

Woah woah woah!!! Lets not get confused here, I was talking about moving across from my existing blueyonder cable internet, over to Sky LLU DSL internet where they would throw in a free wireless router.

At present I do not have any wireless internets whatsoever, just a cable modem connected to my PC via a network cable.
